Trains&armour
Well actually no, I'm a Frisian, and proud of it! ( In Great Britain I would be a Welshman). For the rest, I'm 47 years old, married, father of three children (4, 6 and 8 years old). By profession I'm a archeologist, specialising in the medieval period, but am interested in everything to do with history. And for the history buff, Great Britain is a wonderful country, and I love to spend my holidays there.Railway modelling has been a hobby of mine since my childhood (and armour modelling, but that's another story). As many Dutchmen, I started with Märklin, and concentrated on German railway practice. I've built three layouts, of which only the middle one got anywhere near completion. My last attempt was stowed in boxes when we bought a house that needed major refurbishing, had children and I got on with my career. That was more than twelve years ago.....Last year I opened the boxes, had a good look at all the German stuff, and finally saw the light! I decided to start all over again, and am now an ardent convert to Gods Wonderful Railway! ( here comes the Welsh connection again....).Since then, I've been planning my new railway layout. And sensibly deciding that I would buy stuff only after having a good idea of what to model, i couldn't help myself and rolling stock mysteriously started to appear on my doorstep! While surfing the web for information on modelling the GWR, I stumbled on this forum, very much liked what I found, and decided to join. Because I really can use some good advice on British railway practice. The planning of a small GWR test layout is almost complete, and when it is, I will post it on this forum and keep my fingers crossed!Regards,Sierd Jan Tuinstra
Gallows Close
Hello Sierd Jan, Welkom bij RMWeb. You might be a regular in Krikke and the Stoomfluit then? It is nice to see another NL resident amongst the RM Webbers, good luck with the GWR modelling. Best regards, Chris.
trisonic
Welcome! There are members from all over the World here - yeah, there are some members from the UK that are somewhat parochial but mostly they are all good. Best, Pete.

Trains&armour
Hello Sierd Jan, Welkom bij RMWeb. You might be a regular in Krikke and the Stoomfluit then? It is nice to see another NL resident amongst the RM Webbers, good luck with the GWR modelling. Best regards, Chris. In fact I just returned from a lunch break trip to both these shops. The stoomfluit is not the stoomfluit anymore, as the old owner retired ad sold his shop. Its now The Märlin Treinenwinkel. And it has a nice collection of Märklin stuff, like a very nice DRG (pre 1945 German state railway) steam engine for the bargain price of just 450 euro,s (almost 400 pounds)........... Glad i switched to the GWR! Regards, Sierd Jan And thanks to all for making me feel welcome.! (And couldn''t we have a Frisian corner. I don''t know about rolling stock, but there's enough livestock to make a sizable corner )

Trains&armour
Welcome, it is a board rule that new members must buy all members called Boris a beer. Beer? Try this, my favourite, it'll put hair on your chest!
Boris
If you was to drink a pint of that stuff you'd give a gorilla a run for his money!
bbishop
Ah, a Dutchman. That means correct punctuation and capital letters only where relevant. Then I realise he is proposing to model something unmentionable. Come on Sierd Jan, see the light and model the Welsh valleys in the pre-grouping era (ie Epoch 1). Trains&armour
If you was to drink a pint of that stuff you'd give a gorilla a run for his money! The hair I don't know about, but after a pint of this the braincell count would be about the same. But to get back on topic, it might improve my modelling skills, especially the kitbashing... Ah, a Dutchman. That means correct punctuation and capital letters only where relevant. Then I realise he is proposing to model something unmentionable. Come on Sierd Jan, see the light and model the Welsh valleys in the pre-grouping era (ie Epoch 1). Bill And building armour kits has been my hobby pasttime even longer than railway modelling. And there's the rub, Because modelling 00 scale will give me a perfect opportunity for using my small scale armour. But it would kind of look out of place in a Epoch 1 setting ...... So no light for me, I will be modelling a dark period! I was planning to model a 1944 GWR setting somewhere on the Cambrian coast, with a pre D-Day exercise going on. Building the correct British (and US) military stuff won't be a problem, but information about the wartime GWR would be more than welcome! Andy Y
Welcome Sierd Jan! (and armour modelling, but that's another story). Don't be frightened about showing any of that off around here either; there's not enough cross-genre modelling on here.
Trains&armour
Welcome Sierd Jan! Don't be frightened about showing any of that off around here either; there's not enough cross-genre modelling on here. Thanks for the vote of confidence Andy, will do! And I must say that the Modelling Insperation E-magazine is a great addition to this already excellent site.
