RMweb Premium Gwiwer Posted October 2, 2011 RMweb Premium Share Posted October 2, 2011 Having now been able to refer back to my records I can advise that the Central Line 1962 stock cars experimentally painted with half-red fronts were 1422 and 1445 which (officially at least) were kept in a fixed-formation 8-car train before that became a normal feature arising from driver-only operation. The experiment lasted from July 1979 until November 1982 (1445) and February 1983 (1422) at which times the red was removed and they reverted to standard unpainted finish. The same source suggests all three 1956 stock tube trains were unpainted aluminium including the Metro-Cammell built train 1000-2000-9001-1001+1002-2002-1003. I had understood this was delivered painted red.
