RMweb Gold Oldddudders Posted October 23, 2011 RMweb Gold Share Posted October 23, 2011 Shepherd Neame named one of their most popular bitters Spitfire, being a Kentish brewer, so every saturday night we would drink the stuff (the Peacock, Goudhurst). Occasionally one would have the pure joy of hearing a German tourist asking for a pint of Spitfire, bitte!

RMweb Gold Oldddudders Posted October 26, 2011 RMweb Gold Share Posted October 26, 2011 ...to say nothing of the famous 'Bottle of Britain' advertising campaign of a few years ago... http://www.spitfirea...itfire-adverts/ http://www.twobrewer...r.com/page8.htm There were one or two other slogans that were clearly enjoyed by Shepherd Neame, but did not lend themselves to widespread poster application! Nor will I be posting them here..... Referring again to Goudhurst, a local garage proprietor had a Spitfire, and one would often see and hear it overhead. Indeed, on one occasion I recall sitting in a petrol queue - refinery or delivery drivers on strike - wondering what the brave men who flew their planes to such good effect might make of the society their courage had enabled! Sadly, said chap was demonstrating his plane at an airshow at Rouen when engine failure forced him to land. He then found people all over the landing area, and opted for the trees instead - with the predictable result.
