RMweb Premium 45156 Posted October 31, 2011 RMweb Premium Share Posted October 31, 2011 I just got this from a manager at work - seems that the undleivered parcel/Premium Rate phonecall scam has reared its ugly head again, so Postal Scam: - Can you circulate this around especially as Xmas is fast approaching - it has been confirmed by Royal Mail. The Trading Standards Office are making people aware of the following scam: A card is posted through your door from a company called PDS (Parcel Delivery Service) suggesting that they were unable to deliver a parcel and that you need to contact the m on 0906 6611911 (a Premium rate number). DO NOT call this number, as this is a mail scam originating from Belize . If you call the number and you start to hear a recorded message you will already have been billed £315 for the phone call. If you do receive a card with these details, then please contact Royal Mail Fraud on 020 7239 6655. RMweb Premium spamcan61 Posted October 31, 2011 RMweb Premium Share Posted October 31, 2011 You'd think Crimestoppers could've Googled the number first, that scam was stopped in 2005:- http://www.snopes.co...lephone/pds.asp Edit: OK Crimestoppers know it's a fake, I'm off to specsavers. RMweb Premium 45156 Posted October 31, 2011 Author RMweb Premium Share Posted October 31, 2011 Looks like it might be back, as this was circulated internally to all staff in this office, which is a branch of a major UK utility company, so I do suspect that it may have started up again... RMweb Premium PhilJ W Posted October 31, 2011 RMweb Premium Share Posted October 31, 2011 These premium numbers have to be issued by a telecom company and it is obvious that there is no checks or balances in place when they are issued. So why not make the issuing company liable for all charges incurred due to fraud, in the case of overseas companies surely calls could be simply stopped. eastwestdivide
So following the crimestoppers link, just to clarify, the warning is itself a hoax, and the premium rate number was shut down in 2005
Mod5
With the above in mind this is another one that can be closed before it goes off around again.
