RMweb Gold Captain Kernow Posted December 1, 2011 RMweb Gold Share Posted December 1, 2011 The Devon & Cornwall Community Rail Partnership have sponsored and co-funded a new, level access at Bugle, which goes across the former disused trackbed when Bugle was an island platform (no chance of that ever returning or being needed again). Previously, the only other access was a set of steps from a busy road overbridge. The ramp was built by Network Rail and was formally opened with a few local people and a press photographer present. Not the worlds most expensive scheme, to be sure, but another example of local communities working with the rail industry to improve their local railway. One pleasing spin-off is that a local family, who could not use the train due to the steps and kiddies pushchairs etc., are now able to travel by train! RMweb Gold Oldddudders Posted December 1, 2011 RMweb Gold Share Posted December 1, 2011 Heart-warming stuff. I suspect that Bugle is not full of second homes - like much of the SW - but of first homes with limited income. These are precisely the people that the railway should serve. Unless things have changed I suspect you are absolutely right about the nature of the area - not at all appealing to the green wellies and weekend 4x4 mob because it's all too full of real people.
