I have actually managed to up/down load a couple of videos of Harrington from my Camcorder onto my computer - its amazing what you can acheive if you read the instructions! :scratchhead: I have now also managed to down load them onto You Tube - this is the tricky bit, how do I get the link from You Tube onto a topic page for RMweb? As you can tell, I am not a computer expert by any means, as I did the videos in May!

I've tried a link like this

but it does not seem to work. Not sure how to post the link with the You Tube picture - any help appreciated.

If you would like to take a look, try searching 'Harrington May 2011' on You Tube.

TIA,

Jez

It runs quite happily for me - If you go to Youtube and copy the address that comes up above it, and then paste that in here, it seems to put the pic in your post. This is what I have done

but leave out the hash marks.Looks good!

Dear Jez,

Take a close look at _both_ Jon and Jack's posts, and the answer will become clear...

Jon used the "new" format of YT link, which uses a

http://youtu.be .... etc etc

(IE Youtu DOT Be)

at the head. This is recognized as a _clickable link_ within forum posts,

(IE it highlights in blue + underlined, and most users will recognize that they will need to click on it to go to YT to see the video...)

However, Jack has used the more traditional (and arguably _correct_ URL), copied directly from the address bar of the browser. This has the leading format of

http://www.youtube.com ... etc etc

(IE Youtube DOT com)

If you simply copy/paste a URL with the _proper_ full URL, the RMWeb editor will recognize it as a video, and automatically embed it within the post as Jack's post shows.

(IE no need for the reader to go to any other site, the video plays _within_ the RMWeb post...)

Not exactly sure why YT went to using the hybrided " You Tu Dot Be " domain syntax,

but it's "broken" many forums "simple embedding of video" mechanism...

Moral of the story, using the correct URL when linking is always advisable...

(and no, "shortened sharing" URLs do not necessarily = "correct"... ;) )

Happy Modelling,

Aim to Improve,

Prof Klyzlr

  • RMweb Gold

You don't need the &feature=... bit

(sometimes this is the same but with referrer as the text, remove the & and the rest of the line)
