Well that's the exterior of the Station Shops 99% complete with Ghost sign walls added and final paint touch up. The decision with something like this is knowing when to stop and no more fiddling, after all it is at the back of the layout.

Back scene left off because I need access to the back to start adding the interiors

The grand children are coming Monday, jsut as well I have finished the " barrier"

Looking at this picture not sure I wouldn't be better off removing "Cloud background" because of crinkles and bubbles  and replacing with plain blue background

Thought it might be useful to post this pic I took at our local show of a 1933 Austin Van

Bachmann 33-310 GWR Brake Van Weathered

The new fruit vans coupled up in a 13 van train behind loco 3803. The weathered brake van has been added to replace the old Mainline one Since the new van cost £15.25 it a somber thought how much such a train of wagons and loco would cost brand new.

Finally finished

Now need to dress the street scene and finish integrating it into the layout

I can't make my mind up about street lighting, earlier on I had 3 working lights installed, but had to remove them because they kept getting damaged. At present there is only one (non-working) on the corner. Question is does it look better with or without them?

My thoughts are now turning to next major task station building refurbishment.

I have always been aware of the large triangular empty space at the end of the station building.

So far I have come up with several options,

1. add some flower beds against the wall

2. Add a toilet block

3. Add a newsagent kiosk eg

Now the building for station shops is finished, time to get some jobs done on the layout.

A new set of gates for the hotel, with working lights, although you can't see it in this pic I have highlighted some of the gate in gold paint.  I also had to raise the level of the gravel entrance otherwise there was too big a gap under the gates.

As well as working on some new stalls for the market place, I've been sorting out the area to the right of the shops ( It's been raining all day)

I've added a wall to connect with the existing one and I've added a post box.

I've got a another display board to go next to the existing one, but need to buy some lights for it at Warley.

The tree is nothing special and was brought off the shelf, I'm surprised how well it looks in the pic, but may replace with Little Muddle type trees

Letting everything dry before hoovering tomorrow, which is one some of the track work is a bit green!

Well the grandchildren are about to descend so no more building for now, will test out running of the trains tomorrow so I'm all ready.

post-254-0-99464700-1502117452.jpg

When I originally did this corner the idea was to have some where for the shuttle train to hide.

However with time I have got more dissatisfied with the Toy train look of a hill and tunnel appearing out of all relation to the landscape it is in. Also a shuttle train gets a bit boring after a while. Longer term I want to develop the scenery on the back board and the transition from hill to town would have looked stupid.

post-254-0-78185900-1502117530_thumb.jpg

So I decided to do a test of moving the gas works there, which isn't too difficult to achieve since the hill is an easily removed self contained module.

Obviously this is just a first pass fit, what do we think?

post-254-0-32622600-1502117513_thumb.jpg

This now leaves a bare patch where the gas works was, with the hill module next too it

post-254-0-48325100-1502118315_thumb.jpg

So what happens if I lift out the hill module?

Does the whole thing look better?

So what do you think of my changes. Any suggestion what to do with the bare patch where the hill and gasworks where, if I keep the change>

I like the gas works. Gives a nice shunting reason too, which sells it for me. I'm less sure on the hill just after the bridge. I think you could open the country side up some more and have a nice space through the bridge and onto fields. I assume the track I can see is for the old gas works? I'd leave that too and add some small industry there, sat in the rolling country.

I  value you input greatly John, after the superb work you have done on Hintock.

I'm temped to get rid of the hill, but add a copse of trees (Using Little Muddle type tree) and return the rest of it to fields with sheep grazing.

Scott I'm loath the put industry back in, after all we are depicting England and there miles of empty country side along the rail tracks. Unlike Japaqn where every inch of land was in use for something.

Well that's the first area ready for planting. The field boundary is decided by the base board join and the hedge is used to hide it. The sheep aren't dead just being used to decide if it looks about the right number.

I've had these sheep since my first layout so I had to find them a home!

The hedge isn't the final version. This is one from "hill" which will be replaced by something  using more modern techniques
