RMweb Gold Robert Shrives Posted December 29, 2011 RMweb Gold Share Posted December 29, 2011 Hi, Kit arrived today - lovely mouldings and comprehensive instructions, great transfers and donor chassis has black TTA fuel tanker body - mouldings include a section of walling to make a bund so black TTA tank can be "landed" to make a land tank for a fuel point. Body basically built for 6 yesterday need a little filling and etches priming. To get transfers on right - there are loads on each wagon check out usual wagon sites. Karhedron
I would love to see some photos of these. I am interested to see if they could be built to represent the Bowaters china clay TTAs as depicted here. http://paulbartlett.zenfolio.com/stsclaylinertta The photos on the NGS website do not look like a perfect match but I am also aware that the kit allows some variation. From the photos it looks like the china clay TTAs had a slightly shorter than standard tank. Could these be built from the kit without leaving a hole or would some modifications be required? Hi I would think it quite possible to model these from the NGS kit. You could easily shorten the barrel and you may need to fill a couple of holes in the chassis or overlay the top with a piece of 5 thou plasticard. I am converting two of these kits into a representation of this http://paulbartlett.zenfolio.com/paulbartlettsrailwaywagonphotographs/h3d999731#h3d999731 Barrel diameter is slightly small but I can live with that. I am completely scratchbuilding the chassis using 2mm SA components and plasticard. Just need to work out how to do the brake levers. Looking with interest at how its done - will you post some pics on here if you go ahead? Alternatively am I right in thinking that later on in life quite a few disperate tank wagons ended up carrying china clay slurry at some stage, and can this kit represent any of these? I think so. The ones shown here certainly look close to the NGS kit. I believe they were ex-caustic soda tanks. Here is an example in original condition http://paulbartlett.zenfolio.com/paulbartlettsrailwaywagonphotographs/h3d999731#h3d999731 And here in china clay days http://paulbartlett.zenfolio.com/ferryecctank
