2012 should see Fyling Scotsman return to action, 5764 on display in York, City of Truro being retubed in York, Olton Hall returning for running during Febuary half term, Railfest & whatever else may happen in the next 12 months. So much to see so far, Wren has been moved to the Station Hall & the Sectioned replica of Rocket has returned to the NRM so there are now 2 Rockets in York, both of which are in bits!

Another update, 55002 has been moved to the Flying Scotsman exhibition as the prototype HST is in the paint shop. The freight line in the station hall is still shut, so Wren continues to get attention from me, quite why a 18 inch works loco is in the section of the museum strongly focused on passenger & royal trains is beyond me. For the masses of L&M modellers ( :laugh_mini: ) I've managed to get a photo of the interior of the replica 1830 1st class coach.

You know the drill by now!

Update Time!

The shop/ entrance area is shut so if you want to see the ex.NER steam crane now is the time to go! Sadly I don't see it gaining priority for attention any time soon. :( On a brighter note Olton Hall is back & 45305's motion & buffers have been polished & the gap between the cab & tender has been tarpaulined over.

Another week another update.

Britannia is at the NRM following her Royal train duties earlier in the week and she was being cleaned. She is parked next to Evening Star, is this the first time that the first & last BR standards have been seen together?

Rocket’s cladding has been removed & painted along with her wheels and a start has been made on her tender. There’s a new exhibition in Search Engine looking at the Institute of Locomotive Engineers including a model of a possible Merchant Navy without cladding, it’s best appreciated by those without the benefit of sight!

Clickity click click!

With a new camera to get used to & snow the trip to the NRM was near compulsory! A very clean Olton Hall was outside, 45305 & 5000 have gone and City of Truro is now in the Works for a re-tube. The freight line in the Station Hall is open again, but I'm still playing with my camera & haven't gotten dark photography fettled.

We spent two days on it in total giving it the complete Conservation Department loco treatment. We made local newspapers and radio whilst doing the work, getting ready for the Half Term holidays. I have a vested interest in making sure it is clean, as im the rostered fireman on it for four shifts. Just hope the weather improves!

Olton Hall is shuffling around the South Yard with a WCRC MK1 & the NRM's pseudo pullman MK1 BG for half term. Panning at 10 mph doesn't work well but I just don't learn and I'll undoubtedly try again during the next time locos are running at the NRM! :sungum: The panned photos have been cropped as masses of white aren't interesting.

Thanks, if it's the side on photo of Britannia you're talking about I want to do it again as I'm not happy with the angle. Olton Hall just about looked right to me in that photo, obviously looked after but still a working loco.

Hi to all, I saw your photos from the MRM and you talked about a better angle! well I was there last tuesday so I thought you might like to see these. North British No.66 Aerolite was also on the turntable so plenty of room for a photo. Hope you don't mind me adding my photos. Dave

It seems that I can't get my camera set to indoor photography yet, one day I need to take my tripod and try every possible setting to get photos that aren't blurred or grainy. An interesting thing to model, probably only really possible in O gauge and above is a broken gauge, like the one on D2860.

I was recently at the NRM with my stills camera which isn't special by today's standards. I took the tripod, set the camera to manual, ISO100, f5.6 and white balance to 'cloudy' in the main hall. I didn't take any shots in the other places, but I think it would be needing 'tungsten' in the cafe area.

These are two pictures from the set:

As can be seen it does work but you might be down to a 1 or 2 sec exposure!

Thanks, for the advice, I'll try it out next time I'm at the musuem

Talking of the NRM it seems 'Flying Scotsman' is undergoing some more 'repairs'

At least they're doing the job properly rather than patching her up.

I've dusted off my tripod today and it's amazing how brighter my camera makes the Station Hall look! Not much news to report it seems, there are more bits of Flying Scotsman in the works, including a dismantled expansion link & a pair of banjo domes.

After 4 weeks I've got the camera sussed!
