Jack00
Hi everyone, Not had an update for what seems like ages on Polkyth, but i have cleared my spare bedroom, got the whole layout operational and im very pleased. having a break from N guage for a few days, Polkyth Junc. is now N guage project, so it back to the original secenic board with the depot and branchlne etc. Tarted the layout up in a few places, to be totally honest i just enjoyed playing trains and taking lots of photo's Back to the 1990's then..... still a few bits to finish on like the fencing and the track weathering. will eventually get the whole layout on the rack system, which will mean longer fiddle yards = longer trains Jack. Jack00
Back to the future? 66068 is re-fueling at Polkyth. ok, ok! back to the 80's now please! i fancy a Railfreight chopper pair! Jack.
Jack00
If I find the right livery, I'm going to get a new body for my 47 as it's the 70's style bit too early for my personal liking, seen a few for auction that are parcels red or RFD which look nice. Or I'm tempted to re-spray it myself perhaps into departmental grey or civil engineers, just to bring it into the 90's style. Or maybe have something unique? I have a damaged 153 in central trains livery too which new livery into regional railways would bring it to life as the green is quite faded and scratched. I have a whole box of railmatch paint somewhere I must find it and try out some prototype/ practice liveries. Will have a bash tomorrow. Jack. Jack00
Well couldn't find the rail match instead I set the racks up and found 2 old baseboards in the loft! All set up ready for track plan. ( post a pic later ) so I now have about 6ft to start fresh! Put all that practice to use. So polkyth will be completely re-vamped and planned out properly with alot of thought. But with a few changes such as branchline terminus and old sidings for wagons. Then the depot for loco's and refueling. With only one end being a fiddle yard i will include a shunting section infront of the platform. The platform will hold 1x2 car DMU. 2 trains can be operated at once (analogue) such as DMU leaving the platform and loco shunting or moving on/off shed. Me and my crazy plans. Jack. RSLR
Nice layout! I like the way you've used the metcalf signal box - reminds me of those pics looking off the bridge at Burngullow towards the old station
Jack00
Thanks chaps! I'm basically recycling the whole layout. So bits and bob will be used from old to new This time round I was thinking Falmouth docks platform style with basic car park and fencing but added sidings and loco stabling. I'll think of a few trackplans soon aswel. Jack.
Guest 34008Padstow
If your after pics of falmouth docks i have a few on the camera that i need to upload to flickr sometime.
Jack00
Hi mate that would be brilliant, thanks! Was thinking instead of having ocean bowl, have the loco shed, instead of the shrub land where the line drops down to the dock, could have the wagon sidings. Think the canopy would be quite complex to imitate but unique. I'm sure the car park used to be a steam shed? Could be wrong. Thanks Jack.
Guest 34008Padstow
Just remembered that i added some pics last year. http://www.rmweb.co.uk/community/index.php?/topic/39139-falmouth-town-falmouth-docks/page__hl__%2Bfalmouth+%2Bdocks__fromsearch__1
Jack00
Those are handy pics, thanks for the link! Looks like flmth docks use to have 2 platforms judging by the width between plat1 and the fences. You picked a nice sunny day aswel, was that before the bowling centre days? I have an old photograph of penmere station from the 19 whatever's before it got turned into a flower show! Think it's a 101 or some derby lightweight DMU. will try and scan it in one day. Jack. ( can put those pics to really good use thanks Shane. )
Guest 34008Padstow
That was june 2011, pretty sure the bowling centre was there (was paying more attention to the trains). Was lucky enough to travel from town to truro last month, some of those stations would make a very nice basis for a model.
Jack00
Yeah probs was there. The branch Is very nice quite a scenic one, often wondered if it's been done into a model. Just found a section on Falmouth branch from Devon sulzars think it's called, that in 1976 ( when a particular pictures was taken ) there was a service from paddington to fal docks. It was a pic of blue western and 6 mk1's. ( even tho it's hydraulic ) That's a new spin on my thoughts express loco hauled services to fal?? :0 Too big for polkyth tho. I'll stick to 150's. Jack. Jack00
this is the rack with the boards ontop, 1 board ( right ) will be the fiddle yard other ( left ) being the main scenics board. ignore the track on its just from a previous project. 1. loco shed for light repairs, servicing etc. 2. platform just squeeze in 3 car DMU. 3. old rusty over grown sidings for wagons and loco's. Jack00
It's a big day for polkyth tomorrow. Day off from work so a facelift is in order for the layout! Watch this space. Jack.
Jack00
Hi, as promised, pictures of the update, been slaving away today on the layout, and got loads done. its a change on the layout which im pleased with and now i dont have to moan anymore, yay! probems soleved. the branchline, instead of having a straight run for trains, its now a small terminus platform, which is just big enough to hold a class 150. its a Heljan kit platform and its very similar the "The Dell" station or Famouth Town as its known. i've adapted to my own taste. Althought the track is still a straight run so to speak, passenger services terminate there and run back into the fiddle yard on the right hand side. but for photo's loco's and wagons can be parked to show a frieght passing the platform. well as pictures are worth a thousand words.... The era has changed slightly to more modern time, roughly 2000 but im not fussed really. just need to tidy it up a little in places and i'll be a happy with it all. now the fiddle yard is set up the trains run so much more smoothly, the fiddle yard hold alot of stock aswel. Jack00
A few more pictures to come. Was just flicking through the thread and I'm so glad I didn't start the layout again, just a few adjustments had made the whole layout transform into a fully operational layout. The depot roads can now be used for locos to run from fiddle yard to depot/fuel roads without grounding out, after I tweaked the end section of track with a pair on pliers no more derailments from any of the stock even the 66 which derails at any lump/bump or kink. Although the layout is analogue upto 3 trains can run, 2 loco's in the depot, roads 1&2, and a 1 loco on the station road. Usually a DMU. Almost payday, seeing as my car insurance has dropped by a grand, I'm going to treat my self to a few new loco's. Jack.
Jack00
Off to model shop today, Seated and standing passenger, will put some inside the DMU's! More road vehicles for the car park, and station details. Jack.
Jack00
Didn't have time to pop to the model shop today ( not enough hours in a day )! but i managed a few more pictures of the layout... Jack.
Jack00
i think the DMU's will be complete with passengers and drivers inside. see if i can cut the cab windows down and have a driver resting his arm on the window sill. same as what i done with N gauge mk3's Jack. Jack00
Few pics of update this evening. The level crossing is for the network rail staff, need some more white vans! wouldn't mind another 37! see what tomrrow brings.... Jack.
Jack00
It's payday in 1 hour!! I Have a few night shots of the layout but couldn't help noticing how dark the layout looked! Depot lights and station lights are a must!! The Bachmann 108 interior lights are rather impressive tho! I'll share the pictures soon! Jack.
Jack00
Finally got into town and found myself a model light kit, was a bargain! so watch out for that one..... but for now just a few pictures of the layout. oh and a bit of advertisment!
