The other coach was a Great Eastern Railway boigie coach built for the the Wisbech & Upwell Tramway. D&S Models used to do an etched kit in 4mm scale, but it is out of production, I believe.

There is a drawing of the coach in one of the books on the Wisbech & Upwell Tramway.

I beleve someone does an etch in 2mm scale too - you don't say which scale you are modelling in.

The loco was pretty filthy from what I recall, and essentially dirty black all over - the base colour was actually pretty difficult to see! Given that it was early 1950s, underrneath the grime the loco would only have been BR black or GWR green (not repainted after nationalisation)

According to online sources two 14xxs were used, one facing each direction on the line - 1401 and another numbered the same. So this may complicate things slightly if there were any subtle paint detail differences.

It's certainly a good weathering project though!

One small picture here:

Even the red bufferbeams are stuggling to show under the dirt!

Interestingly here the loco (not sure if 1401 or other) clearly has GWR visible - I don't recall this in the film so prominantly:

Less notable here:

There is a book available from Amazon which provides now and then location shots but for 4mm modelling, I have been unable to find a Bedford OB in Pearce and Crump livery - but Scalelink make a 4mm kit for the Morris Bullnose driven by John Gregson aka the 'Squire'

I hope that this helps

Dapol did a limited edition 'Titfield' 14XX shortly before they sold the tools to Hornby, but it's probably quite sought after by now. K's used to produce a kit of 'Lion'/'Thunderbolt' and this remained available from a small manufacturer until quite recently; unfortunately the owners have now retired.

there was an article a few years ago in BRM about a Tower models 14XX a customer had ordered and wanted in the colours of the locomotive in the film. This included several black and white photos of the locomotive whilst filming was carried out. The finished locomotive was a very grimy green if I remember rightly but don't quote me on that with with a light shade covering the GWR lettering.

Hopefully this can be some help maybe someone knows which issue this article was in.

Failing that you could alsways use the Mainly Trains detailing set for the 14xx and use reference photos for the correct top feed.

If you can't get hold of a suitable GE coach kit Bachmann do a balcony style carriage for use with Toby which is similar in appearance. It is a four wheeler but pair of them could be cut and shut then mounted on a bogie underframe if you want a bogie version.

The North Norfolk Railway are holding a Titfield Thunderbolt day in June to mark the film's 60th anniversary. This will include the "other" W & U coach (twin to the one in the film), a 14XX (painted black specially for the weekend), the roller, a Bedford OB & Ivo Peters' Bentley (he photographed much of the filming).

I can remember Lion being steamed at MoSI in the 80s - and have read an article somwhere where Liverpool Museum weren't ruling out the possibility of a return to steam at some point in the future,

Incidentally Lion's tender was damaged during filming and the damage is still there!

I wonder what happened to the replica that was also used in filming....

Have you seen the website maintained by Simon Castens (a one time member here) which has a lot of useful information which doesn't seem to have been mentioned yet.

http://eis.bris.ac.uk/~liserc/tit.html

Simon now runs a railway bookshop using the Titfield name in Bath
