N15class
I have just been reading Nick Baines article in the GOG gazette. I thought some of his ideas for cleaning off solder were very good, I use a watchmakers graver, which is square in section. I was wondering why it is that every ones seems to like to have the brass polished with all traces of solder gone when building kits? I prefer wet and dry where possible nice key for paint. As for solder as long as it is smooth not rough, the paint will stick to it far better than any piece of brass. It also a very good filler I learnt this with lead and vintage cars. JeffP
Well, there's "excess solder", and then there's "EXCESS solder"! The former is, as you say, not really to be worried about unless you want an exhibition model, unpainted. The SanCheng stuff is work of art. But if you can detect, or see, blobs of solder, runs, etc, that needs to be sorted.
N15class
I agree that all the blobs etc need to be cleaned. I have seen lovely polished models only to be grit blasted to get a key. Why not leave the surface abraded in the first place.
JeffP
Well, theres "abraded" and then there's "ABRADED". We want it slightly rough, but not so as t will show through the paint.
