RMweb Premium melmerby Posted March 7, 2012 RMweb Premium Share Posted March 7, 2012 In the Daytime BBC1 series The Indian Doctor we see the "London Train" in the first and last episodes (an industrial saddle tank and a couple of coaches!) It is filmed in the Welsh Valleys around Blaenavon. Where were the railway scenes filmed? The porter had SWVR on his collar - what does that stand for? Cheers Keith
Guest Natalie Graham
Why is 'the London train' in TV shows always hauled along a single line by an industrial loco? If they said it was the branch train to connect with the London express it would be a little more believable. I saw the episode and wondered where it was filmed as well
chrisf
I enjoyed this series and had been wondering where the town scenes were shot - especially the pub selling "real ale" in 1964 when the term was not coined until the 1970s [oh dear, nit-picking again]. If it was Blaenavon I'd say that the Pontypool and Blaenavon was used - the loco and stock did remind me of something there and the station looked like Furnace Sidings. The colliery could have been Big Pit. Chris

RMweb Premium melmerby Posted March 8, 2012 Author RMweb Premium Share Posted March 8, 2012 Bit Pit was used in the first series as the colliery. Happy modelling. Steven B. I assumed it was probably Big Pit and the railway something like the P&B but the "SWVR" on the porters collar at the station doesn't ring a bell hence my enquiry. ANT
Hello Keith I think that the SwVR is the Swansea Vale Railway Thanks SEEYA ANT
