All the photos of Bidston remind me of my youth when I made the twice yearly pilgrimage with my Mum from Wrexham to Liverpool for her to do some 'decent' shopping.  We caught the train at Central Station and, after having a good ogle at the industrials at John Summers Steel Works Shotton as we passed, changed at Bidston onto the Liverpool electrics which at that time (mid/late 50's) were still the original clerestory stock.  A few hours doing the rounds of C&A Modes, George Henry Lee's etc. and loaded up with bags we returned to Lime Street (I think) for tea at the Lyons Cafe by the entrance and the return trip home.  A long day out for a young lad who's only interest in the day was the trains!

The alternative was to get a Crosville bus to Chester and another to Birkenhead Woodside and catch the electric from Hamilton Square station across the road (or so it seemed).

I've just remembered that my sister once got on the wrong electric on the return journey and didn't get off quickly enough and was whisked away without us.  We had to get the staff to find her and then caught a train to Rock Ferry to collect her.  I thought it was all very exciting but my Mum and sister didn't!

Later on I seem to remember going to Bidston and seeing the 9F's and riding on the Derby Lightweight DMU's, one of which had carriage boards stating that it was the 100th (?) one built.
