andyram
The question has to be asked - is Spencer potential motive power???
steve1
I have done some more detailing on the signal box. It wouldn't fit in the box with a chimney so, I have improvised by adding a temporary cover: Next up I added some guttering and a broken downpipe: steve

steve1
I have now got the REB a lot closer to being finished. It has taken three attempts but this one I am happy with. It's been a Goldilocks scenario. Mk 1 was too big at 3" x 3", Mk 2 was too small at 1.5" x 1.5" but Mk 3 at 2" x 2" is just right! Here it is in various stages up to current status: Test fit in place: steve

steve1
Quick update. Base painted using a match pot. Could have been darker but I can live with it. steve

steve1
The REB has now had a coat of Skull White from a Citadel rattle can. steve

steve1
Having been both away on holiday and then i'll, progressive has slowed to a virtual halt. Luckily a reasonable level of fitness (back to work tomorrow) has returned. Therefore I have building wall and fence for the layout And here's a test shot of some of the bits in place: steve
steve1
At Mansfield show today steve
andyram
Made it over to the Mansfield show today and saw the layout briefly. Would have stopped for a chat, but my five year old daughter was determined to go elsewhere. What I can say is this is a brilliant little model. Hopefully it will inspire some of the younger (and not so young) visitors by showing you don't need a huge space for a model railway.
steve1
Work is restarting. Here's a quick taster: I am experimenting with a magnet set in the track to operate the Kadee couplings. There is one set in the middle of the track here. Hopefully you can see it! steve
steve1
Ah yes, that magnet. Well, last night I took the relevant boxfile along to the ERFG playroom with the intention of testing the magnet worked the Kadees properly and then ballasting the track. No such luck. The magnet worked, possibly too well, but it was mounted too high. Now I couldn't get it any lower as it was down to the boxfile surface, so the consensus was try and reduce the height of the magnet. This was eventually achieved by Mally with slitting disk, a mini drill and a lot of pretty sparks. The problem was it had lost a lot of its magnetism along with its size so couldn't work the couplings. So it's time for a rethink. Do I go for the traditional Kadee magnet set into the sleepers or try some else? I did wonder if one these rare earth magnets laid on its side might work. Time to experiment... steve
Jerry1975
I am thinking of using magnets on a layout I'm currently buying bits for, I was going to use staples glued to the coupling and magnet under track to uncouple. Interested to see how you get on. Jerry.
steve1
The point in Board 1 needs to be replaced, so up came the old one... Now I suppose I had better find a new one! steve
steve1
The track has been more-or-less ballasted and fence painted and stuck down. Slow but sure progress...but progress it is. steve
steve1
The new point on box 1 has been laid and tested as working. Needs weathering in now: The 'other' side of box 3 now has a backscene started: steve

steve1
Did a bit more to board 3. Still need to finish the other side of the track and add a few more bits to the BR side but pleased with progress so far. steve
steve1
Yes, I know it's really too big but it fits and runs like a dream steve
steve1
I really enjoyed operating the layout at its last two shows, especially after it turned into BR Blue era after adding the 20 and swapping the Mainline 09 for a plain blue 08. Everything sort of fell into place after that. I have now started on the non-BR side of the tracks in earnest. After a lot of re-thinks it is going to be field. This has meant adding hedges, a bit of wooden fence and a gate. The latter is Model Railway Scenery laser cut item from a kit. (And very good it is too!) The tractor and trailer are Oxford models and the trailer is in process of weathering Thanks for looking steve Edited June 11, 2017 by steve1
