DerekEm8
Just delving through topics tonight and found that Bachmann have produced (or are producing) 3 of the 5 locos that appeared at special open day at Manchester Central on the 24 March 1962. Midland Compound 1000 Great Central Director 508 Butler Henderson BR class 85 E3058 But not sure if theyhave done this one (yet) BR D62 The other one was an ex-LMS Duchess Apologies to those who have seen the pics before (October 2010) but it seemed a strange coincidence
woodenhead
If they announced a Scenecraft model of Manchester Central it would get even stranger but as Ron Heggs still has a way to go expect that to be next year.

Old Gringo
Great photos, Can anybody add which "Duchess" it was please? All the very best, John
Michael Delamar
this has reminded me that a lot of the loco's the manufacturers choose to model I always find it hard to come across prototype shots of that particular numbered loco. not the big named locos. but the more humble steamers. coachmann
I too was there on 24th March 1962, day before my 20th Birthday. This is the Duchess "Sir William Stanier'. I envy Derek taking good colour pictures whilst I was messing about with art-farty stuff. Mind you getting pictures upright on the bellows sugar-cube viewfinder was an art in itself! The second shot was taken from the cab of the blue electric...
45568
Look at those first two pictures, the grey gabby mac, 1950-60's must have! Bachmann/Hornby, sets of figures in your ranges please, about 20 per packet! 46256 wouldn't come amiss either, sad loss. Also, just noticed Pete Townshend in pic. 2 in a gabby too, The Who must have been in Mancs. that day/week! Cheers, Peter C.
Old Gringo
Thanks Larry for adding the photos of 46256 and belated Happy Birthday wishes for a week last Sunday. I've always thought that this engine should have been preserved, as I've read that it was highly regarded by many of the WCML drivers. Still, I suppose we just have to be happy that we've got a Duchess in full working order, nearly 50 years after they were all quickly disposed of by the oil-sniffing management of the day. All the very best, John.
