lmsforever
I wonder if anyone can tell me what exactly the large industrial complex alongside the Grimsby to Barnetby line is,the location is very close to Barnetby and looks as if it was rail connected once. The main features are a series of retorts on top of a building also there is a large amount of white material in piles or just rolled out around the buildings ,it did not look very busy and no road vehicles could be seen and lastly a road overbridge is also present.Hope someone can help out as this looks an interesting complex . Guest Dave.C
I suspect that you are referring to the Singleton Birch chalk quarry

RMweb Premium Richard E Posted April 5, 2012 RMweb Premium Share Posted April 5, 2012 If it is just to the east of Barnetby with a road bridge at the Barnetby ned of the site then it is the premises of Singleton Birch, who produce lime products. The white stuff in piles is chalk which is the raw material for producing lime. The chalk is quarried on site.
