Jack00
Hello all, I've just built myself 2x baseboards which are quite rigid. fiddle yard being 1ft and scenic board is 5ft, end to end TMD style layout. but back boards are a puzzle for me, what is the best meterial/wood to use and method to attach to the baseboards...? ANY feedback is of great help, Thanks in advance, Jack
Jack00
All done, a sharp knife, lots of coffee, lots of swearing and cussing, but all done Glue gunned to the edge of the baseboards...with screws to make 100% sure ... Jack.
RMweb Premium Kris Posted April 11, 2012 RMweb Premium Share Posted April 11, 2012 When building Avonwick I constructed the basic backscene as part of the main frame work. On the this I then added a layer of thick lining paper that allowed me to curve the corners.
Ydna
For Almere I used 3mm hardboard because its strong, very hard-wearing and relatively flexible. It also has a very smooth surface on one side (the other being quite rough), which means that its perfect for painting sky blue or whatever. If you use plywood the grain is often visible (when unsanded) and doesn't look good when painted. In the past I've also used MDF because its smooth all round. Hope this helps. Andy. RMweb Gold Joseph_Pestell Posted April 16, 2012 RMweb Gold Share Posted April 16, 2012 I'm with Kris. Not a helpful answer for you as you had already built the baseboards, but I always include the backscene board as part of the baseboard structure. Helps a treat with making the whole layout more rigid.
