GeorgeT's (7mm Workbench) TPO

Recommended Posts

Hi Andy,

Please understand my post was as I said merely comment and not criticism. The weathering is very good with just a subtle suggestion of grime. My remarks about water and oil could equally apply to an ex-works loco, likewise the 08 after its first visit to the fuelling point.

Sorry if I caused offence, it was not intended.

Bob

No offence to me Bob, I LIKE dirty Locos and agree with you, but George doesn't, my OO Gauge 08's are as dirty and Oily as hell, my Blue and Green O Gauge Dapol ones will be dirty as well with Oil and Fuel spillages etc.

Well l had a day to myself today so thought l would make a start on my GWR Macaw H from big Jims Connoisseur range..

First thing was to bend up the floor not an easy job.

.attachicon.gifIMG_6278.JPG

But after a lot of head scratching l got there..

attachicon.gifIMG_6281.JPG

So then it was making the boxes for the bogies to fit to..

attachicon.gifIMG_6287.JPG

Then added the buffers

attachicon.gifIMG_6290.JPG

Then the bogies and added the bearings also l have used Peco wheels this time and they are a lot cheaper than other wheels.

As l was on a roll l fitted the bits underneath, l messed up the ones in the kit and had to replace with so brass bits l had,

Still loads to add yet but not a bad days work...

" got loads of detail pictures to help when l get one..."

Very useful indeed.  On the G0G Forum, the idea has been mooted of a gallery/archive to deposit such photos for the benefit of all; it does sound like a good idea to me.

You do have to be careful with photos of preserved locos, though: a Prairie with 'Great Western' and lined, is that as it would have been?

Morning Lads, Thanks for the input do like a good debate, l like locos to look like they have done a little work with a little dusting on, must admit l agree with Bobs comments, so need to find suitable photos of the real loco...

Back to the Macaw H, l have made one of the rings for the side, one down thirteen to go...

You are doing some nice work again since coming back to O. I like these long bogie wagons.

Hello Peter, l really am enjoying being back into O gauge and l am building kits rather than scratch  building this time,, (apart from a Q1 l have alway wanted to build) the standard of kits has risen in the few years l have been away also l am not sticking to any era just building what l get hold of my first build as you know is a GWR Macaw and will be painted in GWR grey...

Here we go again this time an LSWR 24t Brake van which will be in the SR days which is dark brown and vermillion ends with a white roof, this kit is a lot more intense with lots of bits needing to be soldered together before putting together..

The decks need more work on these. I too did what you had done and was corrected on my workbench thread a few years back. I soon did the work and was much happier as a result.

Here are the weathering jobs I did on my BDA's

First attempt:

Much better second attempt:

The grey planking and colour variation makes all the difference!

Hi Bob, Brass is so much better to work with than plastic you get glue all over a plastic wagon and its ruined, brass is much more forgiving, just clean it up and you are back to square one...

Very clever stuff mate, superb workmanship.

Thanks Mate, The brass kits of today are far better than they were a few years back and really are a joy to assemble, the tricky bit is bending and forming but when you get your head around it becomes easier my advice is buy and try you will be amazed how easy is...

Hahahahaha very funny l had hoped to get the LSWR Brake van finished today, but there is a lot more work in the van than first thought, back to work tomorrow so not a lot will be done, very pleased with the way the van is going together though the roof is loose and the ends have not been soldered
