QRModeller
Seen as no-one else has posted about this yet, the AMRA show in Brisbane is coming up, running over the Labour Day long weekend from the 5th to the 7th of May. More details here. Not yet sure which day I'll be going but I will be there, just not as an exhibitor. Anyone else on here going to be there? Matt. QRModeller
Nice pics David You've actually managed to get me in shot in the third image of Bodmin Road. I'm the one in the orange Roar shirt cunningly disappearing behind a post to the left of shot. I'll post my pics from Saturday once I've managed to get them off the ipod. Matt. QRModeller
Right, managed to get my pics off the ipod, which also explains the poor quality - sorry about that. Because there's so many, this'll be a multi-part post from me. Turnpike Lane Dagabar Newcastle Timbertop Tramway

brossard
Thanks for sharing, looks like it was a busy show. Wondering about the breakdown between Australian Railways layouts and Brit. I see you're afflicted by Lego as well. John
Ozexpatriate
Thank you all for sharing. My sister sent me a text message while she was visiting the show. My (very young) nephew was predictably excited by Thomas. It would have been nice to have been there. I particularly liked seeing QGR steam in Rosevale, Dagabar, Cleveland and Victoria Creek Sugar Mill. "Cleveland" was a nice example of a BLT in a British modeling sensibility with nice effort on the rail motors.
HKG Steve
I popped up to the show from my new home of Sydney on the Sunday. Having been starved of Exhibitions for the last 11 years in Hong Kong (apart from the almost annual trip back to the UK to operate on Happisburgh at Ally Pally), I felt I needed a long overdue fix! Held in an agricultural showground hall, It was definitely different to the top UK shows - almost felt like going back 20 years or so. Quite a few of the layouts were operating multi-national /multi-era stock on Australian scenery - initially a bit disconcerting, but judging by the large number of families around the layouts, it obviously works on the entertainment value front. The Coffs Harbour Club layout for example was running UK, US , and Aussie in separate sessions. the Lego layout as well as the drive it yourself Thomas layouts all had large crowds of families around. There did seem to be an absence of teenagers though so obviously the hobby has the same problems in Oz as it does in the UK A-Traktiv Effort, Dagabar, and Roseville all hit the mark with me as exhibition layouts - although I know next to nothing about how realistic they were in terms of Australian operations - yet. I couldn't help thinking that Broxburn sidings could easily pass muster as a UK Military depot layout - must be the Nissen huts, the storage shed and the short platform reminding me of my days inspecting the tracks of Bicester/Kineton/Long Marston and others! Trade was an interesting mix too - I think there was at least major 1 trader who had trekked up all the way from Victoria - I've read many comments on this forum about the cost of attending shows to traders travelling on the UK circuit - but just think about the distances involved over here, a three day show could easily be a full week out of town! I don't think any of them would qualify as box-shifters in the UK sense. Will have to start saving the dollars though for some of the Aussie models but they look to be very high quality! The only real downside to the show (fortunately not packbacks or hygenically challenged patrons) was the internal traffic jams caused by those huge three-wheeled baby buggies that prevail these days! - not helped by one aisle having a row of columns right down the middle! Hopefully the organisers will be able to solve this when they move to Doomben racecourse next year! All in all a good, if expensive travelwise, day out
QRModeller
... I think there was at least major 1 trader who had trekked up all the way from Victoria ... That's nothing. The bloke who runs/owns Burfitt Tools Australia came all the way from WA! Matt.
