Arthur
Some stunning model engineering there, that Duchess is sublime. Wonder if there are any photos of his railway anywhere? Horsetan
"After he sold the linen mill that he owned in Lancashire, Mr Salem retired to Switzerland..." ...and that, I think, tells you everything......

TheEngineShed
The young lady is named Kete Colquhoun. Is Kete a girls name? Do you suppose she is a Kate... Wish I had 20,000 quid to blow on a locomotive or two, there are some nice ones in the collection.
RMweb Gold The Stationmaster Posted April 24, 2012 RMweb Gold Share Posted April 24, 2012 Interesting that the stuff has gone to Dreweatts who - judging by their results in other sales - don't seem to achieve the best sale prices. However all of this stuff will undoubtedly sell and a fair chunk of it will definitely exceed top estimate by a handsome amount provided the quality is there and the bidders turn out (although some larger scale stuff hasn't been moving so well of late so the market might be a tad overdone). RMweb Gold The Stationmaster Posted April 24, 2012 RMweb Gold Share Posted April 24, 2012 Download sale catalogue here: http://webpix.dnfa.c...ogues/13538.pdf Good point to note from there - as the stuff is imported from outside the EU the lots are subject to full VAT rate etc (26.4% on the first £300,000 - and each lot would taxed individually) plus 22% commission. In other words what you pay as the hammer price will have almost 50% added to it to make up what you would actually pay. I suspect that only the very wealthy are going to be bidding high as a £50,000 hammer price means you will have to pay c.£74,000 for the item . There isn't an asterix alongside the lot number, so appears VAT not payable ((except on buyers premium) Isn't there something very strange about the chimney on the GWR 47xx? The guide prices appear very low when compared with some of the much smaller 7mm models being advertised at the moment, for models being produced in batches and therefore not unique as these appear to be!
