Hi viewers!!!

Just got back from the Alexander Palace Model Railway Exibition and was inspired by the amount of detail of weathering on the locomotives and decided to bite the bullet and try some weathering for the first time!!!! I coated the whole locomotive in black paint before wiping off the majority with paper towel, wiping down to give a streaky effect which I really like!!! I weathered all the locos like this and they turned out really well!!!!post-15554-0-38128700-1364125269_thumb.jpgpost-15554-0-63310400-1364125302_thumb.jpgpost-15554-0-89884100-1364125334_thumb.jpgpost-15554-0-05700300-1364125374_thumb.jpg

In other news!!!! I also invested in a steam locomotive to run the steam specials from the spa valley, I purchased this at the Ally Pally show for an amazing £40!!!! It's a Bachmann Class 3MT 2-6-2 BR standard Tank in BR green livery!!!! Annoyingly!!! On closer inspection after buying the locomotive I noticed that one of the wheel rods had become disconnected from the pistion, something I could not fix!! So another trip to Royal Mail to get it sent back to the company for repairs!! Luckily it's still under guarantee!!!!post-15554-0-35367300-1364125614_thumb.jpg

Just another update!!!

Birthday is just around the corner and was thinking on what loco to buy!!!

I'm not sure whether I should buy the Bachmann N class to run the steam specials along side the 3MT or to buy the Hornby Class 08 with DCC sound, any reviews on both locos would be appreciated!!! On the layout side, not much work has been done...........I've found a MP3 file on the Internet which has sounds from a depot such as workmen talking, diesels ticking over and machinery clanking, got file but would like to know if anyone knows of any free sites which have similar files??!?!? Just a question!!!! The weathered locos now look right at home!!!

Hello!!! Got an added day to the holiday!!!! Good Friday!!!! Decided I was going to fine turn the layout before heading up to York for the railway exibition (no, I'm not exibiting!!). Sorted out the sound on the class 25 so the revving of the engine is a bit more responsive and made the brake squeal louder!!!!

Class 37415 waits in the loop for a light engine run up to Tonbridge West Yard

Class 20 128 and 26 003 are stabled in the depot, these two locos normally top and tail the nuclear run up to the nuclear facility

Class 66 142 pauses next to the railway rivial, public bus......

Hi folks!!!!

Still trying to sort out some bugs on my computer software for the layout...... Spent most of the day running trains on the layout and trying to make them smoother by fiddling around with the motor Decoder settings so they run perfect!!! Still no reply from Bachmann after we sent the damaged 3MT to them. Hopefully all is well.....the steam special is now a week late, blame it on Network Rail. Managed to get some photos of the layout including a look at the occasionally seen siding behind the MPD and a strange but good looking double header by a class 25 and 08, strange but they surprisingly look good together.........hopefully the steamer won't take too long to repair and should be on the layout as soon as possible!!!!

Hi viewers!!

Just got back from my three day trip to York!!! What a wonderful place!!!! Visited the 2013 Model Railway Show there and I must say, they were some of the best layouts I've ever seen, plus to fact of the amazing venue of the York Race Course. We also visited the National railway Museum and saw Mallard, Dwight_D._Eisenhower, Western Class, Q1 and a massive Chinese Government loco all sitting around on the turntable, an impressive sight!!!! Also visited the NRM's new section which features a balcony which overlooks York station and the ECML!! What a variety of locos!! DMU's, EMU's, 158's, 150's, HST's and even class 66's!!!!

Work will also start over the next couple of days on the second baseboard which spent the majority of last year sitting in the shed outside!!!post-15554-0-38225600-1364891104_thumb.jpgpost-15554-0-45557900-1364891153_thumb.jpgpost-15554-0-13085100-1364891195_thumb.jpgpost-15554-0-99918800-1364891231_thumb.jpgpost-15554-0-59636400-1364891267_thumb.jpgpost-15554-0-46200200-1364891310_thumb.jpgpost-15554-0-34789700-1364891347_thumb.jpgpost-15554-0-60534900-1364891384_thumb.jpg

While I was at the York show I picked up the Track Atlas, basically an AA road map but for railways......

I wanted to try and show the rough location of MurrayField Junction compared to the rest of the railway, the blue line is track, the red blob is the station!!post-15554-0-90494200-1364904272_thumb.jpgpost-15554-0-70773500-1364904297_thumb.jpg

Work on the second baseboard is underway!!!! Adding an extra two roads to the back and adding the powerbus as we speak.....

Just finished painting and detailing two Ten Commandments warehouses, both of which have a new proud owner, Aztec Windows and glazing and Rycroft Secondhand Motor Dealership and MOT service!!!

Looks like there is a new owner for an Austin A30 4 door salon as it has made it's way out of storage and onto the main road.......next project, a fence to stop cars and people from venturing onto the track!!!!

Happy birthday to myself!!!!!

If this isn't bad timing then I don't know what is!!! Remember the Bachmann 3MT I sent off to Bachmann for repairs.........after finishing opening my birthday presents, the postie knocked, in his had was a rectangular box.....I opened it and to my surprise the loco had been fixed free of charge and been delivered on my birthday!!! Perfect!!!!! I managed to pop down to my loco model shop, the signal box in Rochester and picked up BR MK1 RU restaurant car in chocolate and cream livery to run with the loco as well as some people to populate my station!!!!!!

The first steam special is due at MurrayField junction....the first ever steam locomotive on the layout and the first ever steam loco hauled rail tour!!!!!!

Later during the day the 3MT returned to MurrayField for a photoshoot for the local paper. On leaving the station the loco experienced some drive and regulator issues as so a class 25 made the return journey back to erith station while the 3MT was moved to the MPD where it will spend the night be worked on and hopefully make a journey back tomorrow doubleheaded with a class 37.post-15554-0-34987400-1365862666_thumb.jpgpost-15554-0-72679600-1365862709_thumb.jpgpost-15554-0-85339500-1365862759_thumb.jpg

Hi 'ModernNgauge'

The control panel made out of wood offcuts with the layout drawing a piece of paper underneath a sheet of clear perspects. The LED lights change when the switch is flicked to show the route of the train!! The signals have been delayed although they are ekon two aspect lights and control the station and yard area, there will be another signal by the tunnel entrance as wellpost-15554-0-45868200-1370283388_thumb.jpgpost-15554-0-30333600-1370283475_thumb.jpgpost-15554-0-85220400-1370283551_thumb.jpg

At the moment the 3MT is having some tests on the main running gear and is coupled to the class 08 to push and pull the loco around the yard being that the 3MT isn't in steam!!! Class 20 and 25 have been consisted together in the station so they can move down to Crewe for some maintenance (sound is getting reblown courtesy of LegomanBiffo!!!)

Haha!! No, they haven't yet, the workmen have been too busy installing the signals to worry about the van!!! I just haven't moved it because think I think it looks quite good there. I will move the permanent way team to a new location on the other board so they are sort out track, not the van!!!

Not much work on the layout!! An opportunity has occurred in that the 'great gathering' of all six A4 Pacifics will be returning in October for those who missed the original event!! So were hoping the get the train up there and see the line up. In other news, my favourite model shop is closing down, The Signal Box in Rochester is going. They were having a 30% reducing sale so I picked up a nuclear flask train to recreate the scenes from Tonbridge as well as four limited edition weathered fuel tankers!!

Photos to come!!

I'm back!!

The railway is finally reaching the final stage of wiring and the signals are being installed!!!

Chipping away some ballast so the main base can be installed....post-15554-0-67340700-1375974350_thumb.jpg

If all goes well the layout might be inside tonight but if not we can finish it tomorrow and have a whole day running trains!!!
