Steadfast
Last Friday saw Jack (Rods_of_Revolution) and I heading up to Showcase at Burton upon Trent. On the way we went a bit further north to visit Peak Forest, which was somewhere we'd wanted to visit for a while now. The weather was a bit grim, but the atmospheric mist and low cloud showed how high the peaks are. All pictures taken on Friday 1st June 2012, and are taken from http://joalder.smugmug.com/Trains/Days-Out-2012/Peak-Forest-Tunstead-and/23415145_9SdSGp#!i=1891582028&k=2DM7w2f where there are more images from the day Shortly after we arrived this came rolling past Dove Holes 60059 approaches Peak Forest as it passes Dove Holes quarry working 6H03 Oakleigh - Tunstead A short while later 66601 appeared, and we managed to get to Great Rocks with it sat at the signal box. A long wait there allowed this shot to be captured 66601 pulls away from an extended wait at Great Rocks Junction working 6H80 Ratcliffe - Tunstead 1/6/12 Carrying on along the bridleway up the hill gave this view overlooking Tunstead quarry for the next two shots 66140 brings a set of empty hoppers out of Tunstead heading for the sidings at Peak Forest 1/6/12 60059 departs Tunstead heading for Oakleigh with 6F05 1/6/12 Due to 66140 taking the wagons back into Tunstead after (presumably) running round them at Peak Forest and blocking 60059's route across Great Rocks Jn there was time for another shot of 6F05 60059 powers away from Great Rocks Junction with 6F05 Tunstead - Oakleigh 1/6/12 Heading back to Peak Forest, 66101 had arrived from somewhere and was waiting its next move along with 66126 which was at the head of a rake of wagons being loaded. It was interesting to watch the bucket loader moving along the train, having previously only seen the automated loaders at the Mendip quarries in action 66126 and 66101 sit at Dove Holes quarry, Peak Forest, idling away waiting for some work to do 1/6/12 After shuffling its wagons around 66140 came up to Peak Forest to stable 66140 heading to stable at Peak Forest 1/6/12 Time was moving on so we headed off to Burton to set up the layout ready for Saturday. Setting up was as quick and easy as expected, so we had time to spare before heading to the hotel...time that coincided with some more Brush action. A quick drive across Burton got us on the road to Stenson. The train passed about 15 minutes early or so, which was lucky as the light went fast after it passed due to the cloud. Anyway enough waffle, time for the 56! I can't decide which so I'll post both 56094, freshly painted into Colas colours and refurbished, leads 47739 at Stenson Junction working 6M08 Boston - Washwood Heath 1/6/12 A nice way to round off the evening, it looked, sounded and smelt great! Hope these are of interest! jo

Steadfast
Hi Ben, Yeah I was thinking that too! The dogleg that was visible with no train on the diverging line would make many a modeller proud! Smooth curves...who needs them! Excellent shots must pay a visit there again some day. All we have seen today is armor yellow and gray! Cheers, certainly worth a trip. Oh and, errr...lucky! I do like armor yellow... jo
