scottishlocos
Hi all I would like to recreate the follwing train in n gauge http://www.scot-rail.co.uk/photo/scaled/1890/ are the tank wagons available in rtr or kit form or would this LPG tank that I found on e.bay be a suitable alternative in the correct livery http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Peco-NR-P79-Tank-Wagon-Type-D-Mobil-LP-Gas-/200779162659?pt=UK_Trains_Railway_Models&hash=item2ebf5ee423 regards Dave I
RMweb Gold Scottish Modeller Posted July 3, 2012 RMweb Gold Share Posted July 3, 2012 Hi Dave, Nothing suitable available at all... The only way would be to scratch build the body and chassis. Short cut would be scratch build the body but make it fit a standard chassis with a near enough suspension set up. Drawings for this type of tank are on the Barrowmore website. hmrspaul
Carbon dioxide tanks were very varied, quite large barrels and unlike standard fuel tanks http://paulbartlett.zenfolio.com/stscarbondioxidetta Paul Bartlett
BernardTPM
The 'flat' Farish PCA (the old Rugby Cement, etc., not the new Metalair) might be a reasonable starting point for a representative model with those distinctive 'skirts' and boxes could be made from plastic or brass sheet. Given the 1962 build date it's obvious that the real wagons were rebuilt with pedestal suspension at some stage (late '70s/early '80s?). The chassis otherwise looks close to a normal 45t tank type. RMweb Gold Scottish Modeller Posted July 7, 2012 RMweb Gold Share Posted July 7, 2012 Hi Dave, Nothing available from the foriegn suppliers either. NEarest used to be some Arnold N tank wagon. Just to make this clear - you are not modifying an existing model. You are looking at taking an existing chassis and building the body onto it. Depending on the date you are modelling the tank itself will be between 15.5 and 17 mm diameter. Then:- Add various bits of plasticard to give the distinctive mounting platfor for the tank Add either layered plasticard or filler to form the ends and file to shape. Add pipe runs, ladders etc to suit the actaul variant you are building. Then it's paint shop time! Decals will be the problem but if you know someone who has the ability and equipment to make their own - that's the solution. Hope this helps!
