hoovered
Hi all, I have been given a R078 FS in BR green 1961-1963, but without a tender, which tender/s can I use with this model ?, [this is a tender drive loco]
hoovered
I've been told that a tender from an A4 is what I need, as this Flying Scotsman model had a non-corridor tender, any thoughts ?.
Mucky Duck
You need the non-corridor tender, which is how Flying Scotsman 60103 in BR livery was run until Alan Pegler bought it in 1963 - but he immediately swopped the tender with a corridor version from A4 no. 60034. 60103 also ran German-style smoke deflectors at least during 1962-63. Is that the tender still with it? Didn't it have an A4 boiler too until recently?
Mucky Duck
I'm only researching 4472 in 1963-65 as that's the prototype I will be modelling but looking at images, the rear bulkhead of the tender looks different on the two most recently restored versions so not sure if it's the same one that's been modified cosmetically… and, yes, 4472's original A3 boiler was replaced with that of an A4 in the '70s, then back to an A3 boiler from 60041 Salmon Trout more recently. More info here + of course loads of pics on google/flickr etc
Mucky Duck
Hi Hoovered, did you sort out a tender for your loco? If not, a couple of suggestions below… but you may have to wait to find the correct BR tender top or repaint an LNER one Tender chassis here Tender body
