RMweb Premium PhilJ W Posted July 25, 2012 RMweb Premium Share Posted July 25, 2012 It might be a result of all the excessive rainfall we have had recently. Wasn't there another tunnel only a few feet below the LOR tunnel? IIRC it belonged to the CLC.
RMweb Gold beast66606 Posted July 25, 2012 RMweb Gold Share Posted July 25, 2012 Nearby - St James tunnel, it's the Merseyrail line now !
Free At Last
People living in four streets near the collapse were also advised to leave their homes, as the terraced houses were thought to have been built over the tunnel.Residents of all but nine of the houses were later allowed to return. I'll bet those residents are not too pleased.
Leicester Thumper
behind with the times as per usual.... I hadn't heard anything about this, very interesting though, bit like our old Glenfield tunnel in Leicester, I believe that there are some building built on top of that now. SNCF stephen
Wow, that is a heck of a shame. That tunnel was a proper piece of Merseyside heritage. I seem to remember they were using the control room as some sort of storage. It was quite eerie and quiet despite the car repairs going on down there. antrobuscp
I see that the houses above the tunnel may not be considered safe for some time, if ever. http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-merseyside-19368403 Colin

Jon Fitness
My friend's Landrover is trapped in the tunnel. He sent it there for servicing and now can't retrieve it! He's tried to get a hire car out of his insurance company but as no-one seems to know who's liable it's all come to a frustrating halt. JF
