Sunday Drags...

Recommended Posts

Mention of the Sunday drags in one of the Bachmann Class 85 threads prompted me to dig out these snaps from Autumn 1982 and scan them.... they're not the best of pics and were taken with two shonky cameras, but looking at them now reminds me how we used to get all frothed up at the prospect of NB locos from exotic places like Bescot, Toton or Crewe turning up on weekend diversions.... not only are drags few and far between these days, but virtually everything else in these shots of Rugby has vanished or changed beyond recognition...

Dragged several times from Crewe - Warrington/vice versa, "round" Chester triangle, no photos though.

Went over the Cheshire lines, Crewe - > Sandbach -> Northwich -> Mickle Trafford -> Chester on HSTs, not dragged but certainly fun when the driver wound them up after joining the "main" - loose term ! - at Northwich Sandbach Junction, I do have photos of that, from the front coach.

I have plenty of drag photos from post 2000 - I'll post a couple by flipping to my home PC, this is the works one !

The drag was over the Settle and Carlisle, the 47 was dragged to Preston, where the train reversed with the 47 leading to Carlisle.

A case of the dragged becomes the dragger

Through 2009/2010 a couple of large blockades closed or restricted the North London Line for many weeks, one diversionary route was via the non-electrified Gospel Oak-Barking line, for another blockade trains ran via the NLL DC electrified lines - during these blockades Freightliner dragged several of their AC hauled services between Wembley and Temple Mills every day...

66589 is seen twice on the 25th Feb 2010 when trains were running via the GOBLin - firstly passing Willesden Jcn with 90044 in tow, and secondly at Upper Holloway with 86501
