Rail-Online
Hi, Do you remember when the freight line pegs came off and you expected something exotic, and then a 'track basher' came along? Been looking for info for this attached piece of kit, failed to find anything on the inter-web thing (but I am useless at searching!), is there a good site for early stuff such as this? Also I was wondering, if 03's needed runners for track detection equipment why did 'track bashers' get away with it? Thanks in advance. Cheers Tony p.s. It's near Derby @1965. 'CHARD
Oh crikey that's the device that sneaked up the Waverley isn't it...? We had a look at this a few months ago. French name hasn't she?
stewartingram
Saw one of those a few times at Cambridge (Chesterton Junction).
eastwestdivide
Matisa? searched for "old Matisa" and there's one in the background of the first photo here: http://picturestockt...ast-signal-box/ described as for "lifting and packing" Bit more searching and yes, Matisa by the look of it, very similar in the NRM! http://www.nrm.org.u...-7007&pageNo=15 and
RMweb Premium mezzoman253 Posted July 27, 2012 RMweb Premium Share Posted July 27, 2012 It's possibly this http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wickham_trolley I'm sure there is a model or kit you can get to represent it. Rob
'CHARD
Hmmm, not so sure it's a Wickham. It's not the Hallade car as I mistakenly thought earlier, but we have definitely touched on this beast in the last 12 months.
RMweb Gold The Stationmaster Posted July 27, 2012 RMweb Gold Share Posted July 27, 2012 That's an early model Matisa I believe. And they were not 'allowed to get away with it' but were subject to special movements conditions if they could not be relied on to operate track circuits (although some on-track machinery of that era did operate track circuits with no problems at all and could therefore transit as 'ordinary' movements - albeit fairly slow ones in many cases). 'CHARD
Here's a fellow family member, if Matisa is the case... http://www.leedsmrs.org/jpegs/Gallery/AlanSmith/P/Ponteland%20plant%20exhib%20Matisa%20Tamper%201961.jpg
RMweb Gold The Stationmaster Posted July 27, 2012 RMweb Gold Share Posted July 27, 2012 Here's a fellow family member, if Matisa is the case... http://www.leedsmrs....Tamper 1961.jpg Rather more modern (!!)version as it appears to have its own signhting boards for leveling etc (the bit in front on rollers which could be set-out some way from the machine - or I think that's how it worked (I'm only a 'pbo' - poor b%**%y operator ). Fat Controller
I think it's one used for switch and crossing work, given it only seems to have the one set of tines.
Rail-Online
Thanks Guys, I looks like the Matisa at the NRM but I was amazed how old that one is -built in 1949! I wonder if that was one of the first. Incidentally the date on the photo could well be earlier that 1965 as others at the location are 1957-9. halfwit
Here's a similar 'ballast cleaner' from Paul Bartlett's collection: http://paulbartlett.zenfolio.com/ballastcleaner
IWCR
Hello Definetly a Matissa Tamping machine, this had vibrating tynes for packing stone under the sleeper being worked on, a pair of these can be seen at rail level beneath the flywheel on the right hand side. This only worked on one sleeper at a time and was controlled by a man sitting in a seat right alongside the tynes, all manual control. The following website has pictures of a similar machine without the enclosing structure. http://www.grandadsez.co.uk/railways/tampers.html
