westcountryman
Hi, I wonder if anyone can help me trying to source a number of Southern style lineside accessories in OO gauge. Ideally, I am after concrete platform lamps, lineside ballast bins, gradient posts & freestanding information sign posts etc. The lamps do not necessarily have to be working models, as I'm fairly sure I can manage to adapt them. I've seen a number of Southern based layouts in the modelling press, & I can only assume that not everything has to be scratchbuilt. There appears to be a shedload of regional/ big 4 accessories available these days, but for the life of me, I simply don't know which company to use. Plastic, etched brass, whitemetal anything goes. Thanks in advance for any help any of you can offer. Cheers Rob 'westcountryman' Morgan
RMweb Gold mudmagnet Posted August 15, 2012 RMweb Gold Share Posted August 15, 2012 Rob, Ratio do a good selection of items - lineside hut, lamps etc. Also, Dart Castings do the concrete platforms and fence posts. Peco platform edging is a good representation of the concrete panel platforms as well - easier to use as well. Roxey Mouldings do whitemetal ballast bins and lamp huts - of course you could always scratchbuild these!
PaulWarb
Hi Rob There are a very few items made by Ratio - I expect you have found these already. http://www.gaugemaster.com/item_details.asp?code=RO429&style=main&strType=oo&Mcode=Ratio%20429 Is this any good for platform lighting .... http://www.gascupboard.co.uk/concrete-platform-lamps.html This may be of use too ... products include ballast bins that could perhaps be adapted. http://www.ogauge.co.uk/search.html This company produces Southern platform signs ... http://www.sankeyscenics.co.uk/#/oo-gauge-4mm/4551202445 I hope this may offer some help. Bruciethefish
RT models now have the Albert Goodall range, which included SR concrete platform lamps, plus a few other bits, if I recall...
Tim Hale
Rob, Apart from concrete stuff, you will need other typical SR items. For these I have created a bibliography: http://timhalesblog.blogspot.co.uk/search/label/Bibliography Most of the articles are available, just send me a PM. brightspark
The Albert Godall Lamps are far superior to the Ratio product. We (actually Douglas Smith) made our (his) own concrete fence posts. These can be made available if anyone is interested.

brightspark
Can you tell us more, please? See MRJ 180 for a description of the posts. For those who don't have a copy. The posts are lost wax castings and a "kit" would include a run of two end posts with the diagonal support and a number of plain central posts. We used the end posts at baseboard joints. The wire we used was E-Z wire, inported from the USA. This is the only clear picture that I have of them. Douglas has asked me to market some of his items. I currently have a job lot of "kits" for working Westinghouse dummy signals if anyone is interested (see my blog entries). If anyone is interested in the fence posts, PM me and I can work out demand and how much it would cost for a short production run.
