jonathan452
Don't know if this one has been mentioned on RMWeb already. RMweb Gold The Stationmaster Posted September 20, 2012 RMweb Gold Share Posted September 20, 2012 Ah, a job for a few inspectorates and H&S advisors and consultants - while all the owners of the Shard need to do is spray that side of it with matt black paint. Supaned
And I bet nobody ever considered that effect whilst planning their glazed wonder....of course , it will all be the railway's fault for being there for over 100 years in the first place.... RMweb Gold roundhouse Posted September 20, 2012 RMweb Gold Share Posted September 20, 2012 When we flew out to Hamburg a week ago we flew just to the South and East of London. On looking out of the window the Shard was acting like a huge mirror, so it must be a bit of a problem to pilots aswell.
The Lurker
you can see the Shard from the A20 Swanley by pass - and it's a distraction to the driver there too. Nothing to do with reflected sunlight - just amazing to see something from so far out of town!
Xerces Fobe2
I guess the drivers can't see the points! XF

RMweb Gold roundhouse Posted September 20, 2012 RMweb Gold Share Posted September 20, 2012 I thimk its a great looking building. However I am a little bit unsure of its practical side. Last spring when walking past it in the mornings the dew drops are quite big and you do get wet even though there isnt a cloud in the sky

In my youth, the Divisional S&T Engineer, together with the Divisional Manager's Operating and Footplate people used to get copies of all planning applications where the proposal was visible from the railway. We regularly went on site meetings and ride throughs to check if illuminated signs, building lighting, etc, would affect signal sighting.
