My detailing/repainting projects

Recommended Posts

Well. It's taken me all day, but that's everything sorted, and the mountain of new jobs booked in after a very successful Railex North East! Another big thank you to everyone that made a purchase or just came and said hello, I'm happy to report that December has been another record breaking month for Lee's Locos :paint: .

Because of the sheer volume of business now on the books and the fact that Chrimbo is just a couple of weeks away, I am going to close the order book until the back end of January to give me a chance to make a bit of an inroad into the backlog. It's a bit early, but Merry Christmas to Friends and customers old and new, without you lot Lee's Locos wouldn't be the success it currently is!

Cheers guys.

Well, last weekends show was so successful I have decided to put my feet up a bit this month. The order book is now closed until the end of January as the workshop shelves are truly full and groaning. I may even take a little bit of time to get on with a few personal projects.

This is one of them, courtesy of Johndon of this parish :-wave

To be 40135, I think.

These are exquisite, I look forward to building them up.

A slightly long in the tooth 7mm 37 has arrived for a bit of a rework.

I picked up another pair of 7mm 60's at the weekend, one of them is going into Colas.

You really should use a proper smoke generator compared to those old technology things.

ESU £60 from SWD and they will work controlled by the ESU XL decoder, no dodgy relays or chance of them catching fire to worry about

and the company who makes them is still going.

Thank you Peter, that's interesting. I picked this unit up at the weekend not realising they were 'old hat'.....

Lee,

No need to thank us all - it is the tremendous quality of your work that leads to a full order book.

Have a great Xmas

Good evening, and Happy New Year  :senile:

Here is the first loco off the bench for 2016, and it's a monster. Extensively reworked Heljan 7mm class 37, about 12 months work has gone into this beastie.

New Year Resolutions.

Well, we are nearly 2 weeks into the New Year now, and fully back into the swing of work. I didn't specifically make any New Resolutions, (whoever does?), but I have come to a few 'New Year conclusions.'

Lee's Locos continues to get ever busier, more and more orders every month. It's fantastic, like a dream come true :sungum:  However, with that come other things. Word of mouth brings with it more contacts. More contacts bring new opportunities. Good as this is, it has however got to the point where demands are starting to be placed on my available time. Workload, exhibition appearances, club projects, writing magazine articles, work for local traders, forum and social media updates are all vying for time and attention. So what are my thoughts?

Priorities. And number one is the business. Forgetting about all of the above, the business workload and the behind the scenes daily running of it are enough to keep me busy 24/7. So, my new areas of concentration are...

The business. First and foremost. Customer orders come first.

Wrapping all of the rest of it together, I have decided to drop most of it and concentrate on writing articles for one of the monthlies. I have chosen this as a) I actually enjoy it, and B) it's promoting the business. I will continue to post regular updates on FB, it's easy, quick, and I get decent feedback from it, however the forums will be taking more and more of a back seat, indeed I have already withdrawn from one just before Christmas. I have grown tired of the bickering, moaning, and desire of keyboard warriors to bemoan and slate anyone or anything that in their eyes is not good enough for whatever reasons they happen to be moaning about that particular month. It's tiring, boring, and non productive. Who needs that?

So welcome to a hopefully ever busier and productive 2016 :paint:

First off here are some pics of a new photo plank I have started construction of. I thought it was about time finished stock had a slightly more realistic background to be photographed against!

Looks good, looking forward to seeing more of your work - there seems to be a spooky white light emanating from the side windows of that 25 though...

Hi Lee,

Good on you... I like your approach to the New Year.  I hope things continue to flourish for you.

I'm not sure if you read my post earlier, but I asked how you had done the O gauge tractor gauges?  Is it a trade secret :D  If it is, I'll stop asking :)

All the very best for 2016

Cheers

Lee

Hi bud, thanks! My apologies, I was sure I had replied to your question. They are actually a la Heljan as out of the box.....

Some finished locos ready to be sent back to customers.

45149 which has been repainted detailed and sound fitted. I also had to mod the headcode panels as this loco was unique in having different marker panels at either end.
20118 is mine, (thanks Lucy at Modellers Mecca :senile:  ) to be weathered, detailed, and fitted with lights and sound.
The blue 20 and 25 have had lighting and weathering added, the 25 was in previously for laserglaze detailing and sound fitting. The 2 47's are part repainted detailed and weathered Heljan's, I do have a soft spot for these solid superb running duffs.
The Chipmans 20's are in for lights, sound and weathering. A very smart pair indeed.

What a week. My feet have never touched the ground. And that's with a closed order book until next month! I guess I shouldn't really complain :paint:  Manged to get this weeks mess sorted and take a few phots of what I have been u to this week. The bulk of it 7mm.

First up a BG van, first time around the customer gave me a wrong running number, so I had to remove it, renumber, and blend the weathering back in.

The Hymek is a full repaint, just been lightly weathered as per a loco that's only been out of works for a few weeks.

The pair of red stripe 20's. Fox transfers have not been my friend with these . I used the cantrail transfer lining, but it wouldn't settle, and was a right dogs ear of a job. I just rebed the body colour down, sprayed a white band, cut some appropiate width masking tape, stuck it on, and then sprayed body colour over that. Much better job! I'm having the same problem with the large arrows, in a word, they are shite.

The oo locos arrean 86 that's going into RES, and a duff going into large logo, as shove duff Lady Di.

Finally I have managed to find half an hour to crack on with the structures for the new photo plank I showed you the other week. Basically they have been sprayed brick colour, given a mortar wash, and then had a basic grimy tone down. Now these are done I can get them fixed in place and lay the track. Further weathering and detailing will take place later. The final shot show a few more things that are in the production line!

I'm astounded how well the masked cantrails have turned out on the 20's. I can't do with Fox lining either' impossible to work with but then I've not found any lining that either sits right or is easy to apply. The dry transfers from Woodlands scenics are a real bind too; sometimes they'll rub on but usually won't leave the backing paper.

Glad you got a few minutes to do some work for yourself. I've been the opposite; all work for myself and no punters.

Cheers Andrew. It's been a gruelling week, I've put about 80 hours in.
