Bachmann long wheelbase wagons

Recommended Posts

Hi,

I have quite a few Bachmann OBA, VDA, VGA etc wagons which have swiveling axles designed to enable them to run on train set small radius curves.

I find them a real nuisance when using Kadees as the couplings often don't return to centre. I wondered if anyone had tried securing/gluing the axle boxes to the underfame floor?

The smallest radius on my small shunting layout is approx 3ft.

Thanks,

Mal

I have glued the axle guard moulding in position at one end (think I put a shim of plasticard between the top of the moulding and underside of the floor) with MEK. At the other end of the vehicle I've drilled through the moulding and the floor then fitted a couple of brass pins. This allows it to rock but not swivel giving a form of compensation. More recently I've switched to replacing them altogether with Bill Bedford spring units, but that is probably off topic.....
