81A Oldoak
Hi Interesting. Might have to invest. It didn't help with me that I got the bearings in place then realised that on one axle they hadn't seated well enough and I had to unsolder them, clean them up and redo it All the best Keith The blow torch is also a great tool for undoing soldered cock-ups. Kickstart
The blow torch is also a great tool for undoing soldered cock-ups. Yep. Would have helped. The 2 soldering irons did the job, but took long enough that a lot of heat had soaked into the chassis. All the best Keith
hartleymartin
I've been rebuilding the motion of my Barclay and looking more closely at things. There is a significant side-slop factor with all the rods. I've reduced this by adding some filed-down 8BA washers. In reality the problem is that the rods are too thin. If I were to buy another one of these kits I would ask for 3 sets of etches so that I can laminate the rods up to a more prototypical thickness, or I would make my own from 1.6mm thick brass strips. I'm also building up a whole new chassis. I was rather dissatisfied with the 19mm U-channel. It works, but the frames are too close together - would work brilliantly for a 3'6" gauge version though!
