rd84
My guess would be the Cromford Wharf workshop, at the foot of the Sheep Pasture incline on the Cromford & High Peak Railway - I understand that they built their first locomotives using some major components supplied by engineering companies and the rest made on site. The workshop still exists today and has original tools and fish belly rail inside and forms part of a museum on the High Peak Trail in Derbyshire. The area in later years became better know as High Peak Junction when a junction was made to the Midland Railway mainline at Cromford - The C&HPR was originally an isolated railway. Well worth a visit if you're in that area - Films of the C&HPR in operation can be seen there - the incline operation is fascinating to watch. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/High_Peak_Junction Cheers Paul
