EddieB
Today marks the 150th anniversary of the London Underground, when a train of top-hatted invited guests (including, so goes the family legend, one of my ancestors) travelled from Paddington to Faringdon. Public services began the following day. The Post Office has issued a set of 10 commemorative stamps to mark the anniversary. Calling in at the main post office in New Oxford Street, it seems they, and many other branches, won't be allocated any - I'll try Trafalgar Square later. I'm thankful that my journey this morning was on the Central Line, having seen on Google.co.uk today that the tube map has been transformed and many lines disrupted - however the new East London branch of the Victoria Line looks interesting! Edit: Some other interesting and amusing variants of the tube map here http://www.mirror.co.uk/news/technology-science/technology/london-undergrounds-150th-birthday-celebrated-1525217
RMweb Gold The Stationmaster Posted January 9, 2013 RMweb Gold Share Posted January 9, 2013 The Daily Mail celebrated yesterday with a piece online about it. It included a picture of a 'new train in 1960' - whichw as a 1940 Waterloo & City set, so not even part of the 'UndergrounD'! But some good, sensible(ish) coverage on the London version of BBC local news.

RMweb Gold Oldddudders Posted January 9, 2013 RMweb Gold Share Posted January 9, 2013 Google has a map of the Underground in place of its usual logo today. Or, at least sort of! And not on Google.fr, natch.
