RMweb Premium Neil Posted January 12, 2013 RMweb Premium Share Posted January 12, 2013 Having tried a quick internet search for either of the above and found nothing, I thought I'd consult the collective wisdom of RMweb and see if anyone could point me in the right direction for a 4mm model of one of these Jaguar saloons. Many thanks.
BernardTPM
None that I know of. Corgi Juniors did a s.I XJ around 1970, close to S scale and Herpa did a s.III XJ in the late 1970s in H0. Those were the nearest, but neither would really look right alongside 4mm vehicles.
RMweb Premium Neil Posted January 12, 2013 Author RMweb Premium Share Posted January 12, 2013 Many thanks for the reply Bernard: I'd rather suspected that this might be the case.
BernardTPM
Yes, a shame, but surely an ODC some time!
BernardTPM
Just remembered another one: Zylmex did a s.II XJ coupe, however, it's about the same size as the Corgi Juniors model (and not as good).
RMweb Premium Neil Posted January 13, 2013 Author RMweb Premium Share Posted January 13, 2013 I assume that the Corgi Juniors model is out of scale for my purposes?
Dungrange
I'd assume so: I think Corgi Juniors are nominally 1:64 scale. Regards David
Michael Delamar
ive got a nice model of a mk2, I think it came from a keyring
BernardTPM
Neil, I'll dig the Corgi & Zylmex out and measure them. I suspect they'll be around 1:70, possible on the 'wrong' side. Corgi Juniors varied in scale, like Macthbox, but sometimes you get lucky. For example, if your a 3mm scale modeller, they did a rather nice Duple Bella Vista 25 that's practically spot on (though the Whizzwheels version suffered with poorly reworked wheel arches). BernardTPM
Here they are: Both seem to be to the same scale*, though the poorer fitting bumpers of the 'Summer' (not Zylmex) coupe make it longer, so I scaled on the measurements of the Corgi and it is almost precisely 1:67 scale. *The coupe, though s.II, kept the original shorter wheelbase of the original s.I saloon. A longer wheelbase s.I saloon was added to the range (XJ6L), but s.II saloons only had the longer wheelbase. Both models are the same width and wheelbase, and have the same length from headlight cowl to rear wing tip, but the coupe is 2mm longer over the bumpers. SRman
I have one of the earlier Corgi 'Rockets', which contributed to a part of the Junior range later. While it is quite a nice model it is definitely too large for OO. As Bernard says, it comes out at 1:67, as near as makes no odds.
RMweb Gold Re6/6 Posted January 16, 2013 RMweb Gold Share Posted January 16, 2013 That's a posh motor that you need Neil! Has Morfa gone up in the world?!
RMweb Premium Neil Posted January 16, 2013 Author RMweb Premium Share Posted January 16, 2013 Thanks Bernard, looks like I'll need to be patient and wait till something suitable arrives from one of the die cast companies. That's a posh motor that you need Neil! Has Morfa gone up in the world?! Ah well, I thought a Jag would be suitable set of wheels for a certain visitor to mid Wales, but I could always go the Range Rover route.

BernardTPM
I have a Midget Models Mk.1 2.4 and a body casting from the old Husky Mk.10 that I was looking at bashing together to make a 420 http://www.carandclassic.co.uk/car/C12609# or maybe the Daimler Sovereign http://www.simoncars.co.uk/daimler/sovereign1.html, just to be different.
