BR bogie nomenclature

Recommended Posts

Hello,

I was wondering if anyone can direct me to a list of BR bogie types.

For example we know that the M3 coach is carried on BT10 bogies (B = 2-axle, T = trailer, 10 = type 10) and Cl.58s were on CP3 or CP3a bogies (C = 3-axle, P = powered, 3 = type 3) etc.

Is there a list out there showing all the different types/sub types of bogies?

Was this numbering scheme (devised by BR in the 1970s) ever applied retrospectively to earlier bogies?

Thanks in anticipation.

Peter
