RMweb Gold beast66606 Posted May 15, 2013 RMweb Gold Share Posted May 15, 2013 I'll use this thread to post pictures taken around my local area - Eccles Road - they won't always be chronological as I catch up but I'll try and post the lastest stuff as soon as I can after I've taken it. Some of the photos may have appeared elsewhere but to keep all Eccles stuff together I'll be duplicating them here. 11 March 2013 The box, closed 01/12/2012 but is still standing, although the steps have been removed. The home signal had been recovered by this date, it stood next to the location cupboard in the centre of the shot A treadle An old gatepost, a reminder of times when there were three tracks over the level crossing This used to be a loop, long since removed, the gatepost pictured above is visible to the right, notice the final signal wire run is along the old track bed. 158852 on 1L04, 08:34, Nottingham - Norwich 170205 on 1K66, 10:12, Cambridge - Norwich 170207 on 1K71, 10:40, Norwich - Cambridge 158847 on 1R82, 10:57, Norwich - Liverpool Lime Street Notice the camera recording the light sequence. 37518, An Gearsasdan, 45407, The Lancashire Fusilier, and 70000, Brittania on 5Z55, 08:35, Sheringham North Norfolk Railway - Castleton Hopwood Ground Frame

RMweb Gold beast66606 Posted May 19, 2013 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted May 19, 2013 Today saw some classic traction of a different kind .. 45699, Galatea, on 1Z45, 08:49, Kings Lynn - Norwich Crown Point It's been a long time since I've seen the old girl and she's certainly improved a lot with her age, she was a rusting hulk when I saw her in Barry all those years ago. She was off to Lowestoft after Norwich, then down the ESR to Ipswich where she reverses and returns to Kings Lynn.

She was off to Lowestoft after Norwich, then down the ESR to Ipswich where she reverses and returns to Kings Lynn. I didn't know Galatea had spent some time at Dinting. I'd always thought she'd gone from Barry straight to Carnforth given that Leander moved base to Carnforth in 1979 and Galatea left Barry in April 1980. Either way 45699 is looking good now. Nice photos.

Now you mention that I realise you're right, I visited Dinting and Barry around the same time, and now I've mused some more it was Scots Guardsman that was the rusty mess at Dinting and Galatea which was at Barry. Thanks.
Tim Horn
Apologies for Dave for not sticking to Eccles Road, but this ties in nicely with LNERGE’s post and Dave’s HST one. Nice to see a train heading for my home village of North Elmham

The box, closed 01/12/2012 but is still standing, although the steps have been removed. Sad to relate but the lever frame is (apparently) getting removed from the box today - perhaps demolition is finally looming.
hoovernut
It will be sad to see the boxes go along the brecks line. Having lived a few stops down the line in Brandon all my life I have spent many a happy hour up in the box. We still have the steps attached though. RMweb Gold beast66606 Posted June 12, 2014 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted June 12, 2014 I took a further look tonight whilst photographing a 156 returning from Wolverton, the levers are all still in place but have been returned to normal, these has been some recovery / investigation of the cupboards, not obvious what has been happening but time will tell. RMweb Gold beast66606 Posted June 15, 2014 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted June 15, 2014 I was there for the convoy ! - you were a momentary distraction, unfortunately because I had to rush back to work I only made a token effort to attract your attention. I'm away for a couple of days but when I get back we can continue the PM conversation and you can have a copy of the photos cheers,
