hornbyandbf3fan
What kind of steam loco would pull the TPO? I'm guessing it wasn't the top pacifics, but I'm probably wrong. Would a B1 or a 4MT be suitable for MK1 TPOs?
Karhedron
Could have been almost anything depending on how long the train and how important it was.

RMweb Gold The Stationmaster Posted May 18, 2013 RMweb Gold Share Posted May 18, 2013 Trains conveying TPOs were in the Letter Mail Contract which demanded high standards of punctuality. That meant the work tended to allocated to the upper driving links at depots and that meant usually the sort of locos they worked on - so top line motive power on the long distance trains. But short distance working would be seen with more mundane power in the Class 5 MT sort of range.
hornbyandbf3fan
Thanks, I'll use my B1 or maybe my Battle of Britain class.
RMweb Premium Gwiwer Posted May 19, 2013 RMweb Premium Share Posted May 19, 2013 BoB would certainly have been a contender over SR routes but were there any TPO workings (as opposed to other mail or parcels trains) purely on the SR? The West of England TPO was always on the GW route.
