Signal Help

Northpoint

Recommended Posts

I have a 4mm scale BR(S) small station as a work in progress and I want to either build or have built a bracket starting signal for the island platform.

A couple of questions that I hope somebody might be able to answer.

How common were lattice posts as opposed to "double" rail built posts?

What would be a common height for the post from ground level to the brackets? 25ft has been suggested but I feel it is too high to give proper sighting for a train waiting in the platform.

Any help wouold be appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

Thanks, Ian.

I have looked at that but I couldn't see anything that gave dimensions. If you look at the second picture down the left hand side (with the departing train) on your link, that looks like less then 25ft tall to me - maybe 18ft?

Re the post construction, I have seen photos of lattice posts but it seems the rail built variety was more widespread. Classic examples are the starting signals at Hastings. Those also seem much shorter than 25ft (taking into account the platform mounted location).
