shortliner
Just as a matter of interest (to me at any rate) this is my £3 backscene (135 x 45cm.) I had to darken it a bit as I couldn't work out how to turn off the flash on my camera - and it looked as though there was a rain/snowstorm in progress. Does anyone know where this is? (my thought was Chicago, but I'm probably wrong). There is nothing on it to identify the actual location - I'd like to try to do a yard with lighting but have some LED multi lights on a strip that the colour can be changed on, but cannot see how to connect them to the power supplies ( fairly clueless about them.) davknigh
At a guess it looks like New York. The building with the illuminated top looks like the Chrysler building and the two searchlight beams resemble the ones at the site of the World Trade Centre before the new building went up. And finally the foreground looks like waterfront. Cheers, David
shortliner
You may very well be right - I didn't know about the searchlight beams at the WTC. - thanks for that
RMweb Premium melmerby Posted February 2, 2019 RMweb Premium Share Posted February 2, 2019 I reckon it's taken from the south end of Roosevelt Island or nearby.
Mike Kieran
It's the New York City Skyline pre-freedom Tower. DavKnigh is correct in that the two lines in the background are searchlights pointing to the night sky as a memorial tribute to the World Trade Center Twin Towers and it's victims. Mike Kieran
I believe that it's taken from the Brooklyn Promenade right above where the New York Dock Railway was located.
Mike Kieran
My mistake, The shot may be from the old Long Island Railroad's float bridge in Hunters Point In Long Island City. Edited February 2, 2019 by Mike Kieran
RMweb Premium melmerby Posted February 2, 2019 RMweb Premium Share Posted February 2, 2019 (edited) I was trying to line it up with the google images and this was what I was looking at, which shows the elevated/covered section of road on the waterfront from Roosevelt Island. https://goo.gl/maps/aiCym1EViN82 So many buildings have changed. EDIT To get the angle looking up at the Chrysler I think you need to be in the East River nearer Manhattan than Brooklyn Like this: https://goo.gl/maps/DiiK5ab6s3S2 Edited February 2, 2019 by melmerby

Mike Kieran
I was right the first time. That's not the Chrysler Building, that's the Woolworth Building. If you look in the lower right corner of the picture, you'll see the old Pier 17/South Street Seaport building. What a difference when I put on my reading glasses. Mike Kieran
That's the one! It's where the New York Dock Railway's Fulton Terminal was. There's what may be the best pizzeria in NYC and a great ice cream joint right by the water which used to be a fire station for the FDNY Marine Unit.
