RMweb Gold Joseph_Pestell Posted June 8, 2017 RMweb Gold Share Posted June 8, 2017 My pleasure Keith Another quick Mini pic from Gaydon yesterday... rare fiesta Yellow, not a popular colour back then but I rather like it... DSCF1201 (2).JPG My parents ended up with a Fiesta Yellow Mini Estate: KPE641C which was still my mum's car when I was learning to drive in 1974. They had wanted the Ivory White or Almond Green (as per the next back in that photo). But delivery delays were long so the dealer in Epsom finally rang up to offer them the Fiesta Yellow. "Oh, you mean Sickly Green", said my mother. You are right, it was not a popular colour.

In recent years there have been two or three different Mk1 Fiesta Yellow estates on display at Mini Shows and quite a few saloons and Coopers I nthis colour too. It's more popular now than it ever was in the '60s. With the right colour trim and wheels it's rather nice I think. Before I bought my Mk2 S I came within a whisker of nabbing a nice original early 997 Cooper in FY / Old English White, it really was a lovely looking thing. Off to Beauliea on Sunday for the annual Mini Cooper Register bash, it's the fiftieth anniversary of the Mk2 this year, a mate who's organising the main display has managed to get twenty five Mk2 Coopers / Cooper S's together for the day including mine..... must charge up the camera batteries!

As a former resident of the Bridgwater/Taunton area, i quite possibly saw at least some of those vehicles in their working lives eg. the Taunton registered S1 Landie. I'm intrigued by the single colour Riley 4/72 (or is it a 4/68?). I was always under the impression that all the Riley A60 variants were two-tone.

Horsetan
^^ Looking at the swage lines of the body panels and door skins, it strikes me that they must have gone to great lengths to create the press tooling to make those shapes. Nowadays it's the running gear that's infinitely complex, not the body style.

Fat Controller
^^ Looking at the swage lines of the body panels and door skins, it strikes me that they must have gone to great lengths to create the press tooling to make those shapes. Nowadays it's the running gear that's infinitely complex, not the body style. The tool-makers who made the press-tools were highly-skilled artisans, who knew how crucial their work was; most of the strikes that were so commonplace in the 1960s and '70s started in the tool-rooms. I had a relation by marriage who was a tool-maker at Pressed-Steel-Fisher's Llanelli plant; to occupy his unplanned leisure hours, he built 00-gauge locos from scratch, using Plastic card, often laminated and filed to shape. Amongst the ones I remember were a Brush Type 4, a T9 and a 57xx pannier.

They were tidy but certainly not 'concours' level , that Mk 1 Sprite certainly was in my opinion though . There were quite a few other photo worthy motors there but as always happens , the camera battery went belly up despite just having been charged . I don't know if it will be there but keep an eye out for GRX 310 D , ex works rally car .

Hope to get there this year. Should have mentioned that this is a charity event in aid of STARS the Salisbury Hospital charity. I have also noticed that it is advertised as a vintage vehicle gathering, so not just for the car enthusiast.

The Loddon Vale Club had invited me to take my 'Seaside Layout' and a CWR publicity stand to be part of their presence at the Carnival.
Horsetan
Slightly OT, but I was looking at some of the YouTube videos showcasing Jay Leno's unfeasibly massive old car collection. The thought struck me: with such a large number of cars, what's going to happen to them after his death?
RMweb Premium New Haven Neil Posted June 12, 2017 RMweb Premium Share Posted June 12, 2017 One for Ivan - spotted last week here, another old 3.0 BMW, but a CSi this time, in red (which didn't suit it). Registration - CSI MAN !! C 51 MAN I suppose, a Fraggle Rock only registration series. I was in the back of the car so couldn't get a photo of it.

Fraggle Rock is probably where all these E9s have come to see out their useful lives without being bothered by such things as the annual MoT...... Rugd1022
Bagged a bumper crop of photos at the Mini Cooper bash yesterday down south, it was a fabulous turn out with some wonderful cars coming out of the woodwork for the occasion, not least the twenty five Mk2 Coopers / S's for the 50th anniversary of the Mini's first official 'facelift', I'll just post these for now.... 'Aqua' was a rare colour on probably only a handful very late Mk2s, it was one of the new BL shades for the upcoming Mk3 range which was officially launched in October '69... Lovely pair of Mk1 based Sprints... The Almond Green Mk1 I posted pics of a few days ago was there, in the flesh it's a real period gem... Fiesta Yellow strikes again, fabulous Mk1 Cooper S... I 've seen this car several times now and it never fails to raise a smile... Deep Sanderson number one...
