My two Peugeot 405 diesels were fine cars. First was a base 1.9 non turbo ex showroom demonstrator. Traded in my bl**dy awful Audi 90. I sold it on for virtually what I paid for it a couple of years later to a Taxi firm in Warrington with 60,000 on the clock. The next one was my first company car, a flying diesel, 405 GTDT with a turbo and all the bells and whistles. Lovely car though the MPG was down on the non turbo version - driving style perhaps ?

405's were as common as muck not long ago. Not many to be seen these days - a "modern classic" - yes I think so.

Even early Hyundais are getting rare nowadays, partly because like many 80's cars they were caught up in the scrappage scheme. A few months ago I espied a Hyundai Pony pick-up on E-bay, the asking price was £20,000! Mind you that had been restored better than new and it was being sold by a dealer.

I landed a Hyundai Pony hire car from an accident repair company once, based on that experience, restoring one to better than new condition wouldn't be that difficult.

Most fall victim to the dreaded trailing arm bearing collapse or rot at the rear end of the sills.

Always blast the road dirt out  with a pressure washer regularly and keep the wheel arch lips mud free.

And the A/C is good old R12, much better than the system in my mrs newish Clio!

Ferrari 250swb ....

This beauty was parked in Hornchurch town centre . Fair play , he uses it regularly , I've seen it a few times .

It's stunning ...my favourite car of all ...little bit out of my price range thoughattachicon.gif2018-06-03 16.38.15.jpg

Flippin' 'eck, I wouldn't fancy leaving that in a public car park! (....if it's a real one that is!)

I think it is a real public car park!

Actually I'm with the owner, whats the point of having something like that and no using it as a daily driver? My mate has a 1948 Bentley Special, with a pre-war boat back body, and it looks just like a Blower Bentley (even fooling some at a Bentley Drivers Club meeting!) and he uses it daily too, just like me and my Moggys....

If someone is going to pinch it, its insured, and its only metal after all.

Local classic run ending in Burnham last evening ,

This year I made sure the camera batteries were fully charged . :sungum:

I can't say for sure that all are totally true to the badges , especially the Mini's , or original ,

Probably not in France but I don't think it was a strong seller in the UK, but neither were 605's or 607's . ....

The CX could best be described as moderately successful in the British market. Even so, it was a stunning success here compared to the XM, 605 and 607...

Mike - the almond green and white Mk1 Mini '109 YYB' comes up on the DVLA as a July '64 1071 Morris Cooper S which is probably right, it certainly looks like a Morris Cooper S on the outside.

The other green and white one reg'd 'G738 OYA' is a rare(ish) 'Racing Green' limited edition job, most have either rusted away or been converted into later Sportspack Cooper lookalikes. They were sold around the same time as the 'Mini 30' cars.

What is the craze with putting minilites on everything? I don't think it does anything to enhance any of the nice cars that they are put onto. I'd rather have the standard rims any day of the week.

Talking of which does anyone want a set of Maestro alloys?

It's definitely real ...the owner has an astonishing collection of cars including a McLaren F1.

This is by far the most pricey one he has though , I think the last RHD one of these that was at auction went for £2-3M.

Like I said though , fair play to him ,he uses it regularly and mixes it with the other traffic.

There was a beautiful E type DHC in the car park too , beautiful it was , but I must have seen 20 people taking pictures of the Ferrari and pretty much ignoring the E type which was a shame as that was pretty stunning too.

Lovely to see these cars being used .

Thanks for that Nidge , someone I spoke to said the the first mini pictured is not a genuine job ,

lots of trick suspension and a well modofied engine . Another pic of same .

DVLA says it's red and 998cc.   :jester:

What was the red with white roof one called Nidge?

There were two white ones one with blue roof and the other with a pink one the same time as the racing these were sky and rose but can't think of the red one

Flame! Came to me as pressed post!

Red and white limited edition from the same period... 'Mini Flame' Russ, yes!

The Sky and Rose editions are quite rare but the chap who restored the bodywork on my S found a one owner 22k mile Sky in Banbury a while ago which he's doing up.

Looks like it could have started life as a bog standard 1970 / 71 998 saloon, going by the reg' number and Mk3 rear light clusters, although bot hare easy to 'fake'.

There was the red hot and jet black as another limited edition.

The mini red hot had its own colour whereas the metro red hot was flame red.

I had an MG maestro I fitted 16v engine to painted in mini red hot

Yes, I htink the Red Hot and Jet Black came out in '88, there was also the 'Park Lane' from c.1986 and the 'Mary Quant' which had moddish looking black and white striped seats. Still, none of these were as special as the Innocenti Minis of the '70s, wouldn't mind one of those, despite being a bit bored of Minis lately.

Here is some pictures of it in 1991.

I was featured in fast car when it was a decent magazine but on the test at bruntingthorpe it suffered detonation and melted a piston
