Steve-e
Regarding the white window frames on 56101 above were they specific to one depot and when did they appear I gave up much interested in railways from about 1987 until 2001 and certainly cant remember seeing any 56 before 1987 like this. Oh and here are some of my 56 photos http://www.flickr.com/photos/northbriton/10559978594/ http://www.flickr.com/photos/northbriton/10066761806/in/set-72157636143363366 http://www.flickr.com/photos/northbriton/10066813673/in/set-72157636143363366/ Many Thanks Steve
RMweb Premium Phil Mc Posted February 11, 2014 RMweb Premium Share Posted February 11, 2014 Hi Nes, 56101 had just been named 'Frank Hornby' at a modelrail live event on 17.9.11, though i'm sure some loco's had similar livery adornments in Br days!! The loadhaul grid pic was taken on 15.2.10, it had just been painted (see overspray on brake cylinder), I presume its in preservation in this livery? 006 was captured on 6.8.09. Cheers, Phil. eastwestdivide
On those white window frames, has this got the faded remains of them, or is it just the black peeling off? 56107 in 1984 on a railtour: and a crop from a closer shot, other end, max resolution:

Classsix T
Re the queries above: 101 was given the white embellishments favoured by Tinsley depot, see the rad grilles at No1 end. 098 has been undergoing an overhaul including new power unit and is destined a return to the mainline. yorkie_pudd
Stunning tread on the 56`s and the pictures posted for history and information gained. Question are the grills on cab 1 or cab 2 end please ? cheers
Wayne 37901
Hi yorkie, If you mean the main cooler group grilles then these are always ar the number one end cab on british locos. The other grilles at the number two end at cantrail level were added later over the electrical compartment as part of a package to improve class 56 reliability. Hope that helps.

Classsix T
Thanks Wayne it always baffled me when folk spoke of cab 1 or cab 2 end and me wondering which was which lol, if you don't ask you don't learn. It gets rather more complicated with twin engined diesels, I can make an educated guess with Deltics (vac exhauster end is no.1), but wouldn't have a clue with oil sloshers or Falcon (or Kestrel, one engine, cooler groups both ends)! Just to complicate matters, there is also an 'A' and 'B' side to a locomotive and despite ownership of a Class 56 anorak, I couldn't tell you off the top of my head, which is which! C6T.
