RMweb Premium Phil Mc Posted June 8, 2014 RMweb Premium Share Posted June 8, 2014 Ive no idea what had happened to this, & I hope no-one was hurt. Must be a terrible experience to be sat in the chair, knowing whats about to happen & not being able to do a great deal about it. Guest B Exam
Ive no idea what had happened to this, & I hope no-one was hurt. Must be a terrible experience to be sat in the chair, knowing whats about to happen & not being able to do a great deal about it. Cheers, Phil. 56122 collided with it's own train whilst running round. The loco was being driven from the other cab at the time. As a result of the accident, 56122 was withdrawn as deemed uneconomical to repair. The loco was 7.5 years old.... Anyway... 56009 at Derby with 1V54 10.13 Scarborough-Swansea on Saturday 13th June 1992. Of note for modellers is 56009 has lost its bufferbeam cowling and side skirts at this end. Also a strip of metal is riveted above the driver's side marker lights. Edited June 8, 2014 by B Exam

60091
As the 56s are a favourite class of mine I couldn't miss the opportunity to post a few photos. The majority are from 1985-2000 and are taken in the North East which is where I did most of my photographing at that time. I only have a few (poor quality) shots of the class in original blue livery so, to keep things chronological-ish I'll start with large logo. All from the Gateshead allocation - 110-135 IIRC. Ryhope Grange Junction. 1986 same location 1986 Sunderland South Dock Shed 1988 same location 1988 Departing South Dock 1990 Hawthorn/Murton loading bunker Sunderland South Dock 1992 Approaching Hawthorn mine 1992 Newcastle 1992 Descending the notorious 1 in 37 Seaton Bank. 1992 Easington Colliery 1992 Approaching Ryhope Grange Junction from South Dock. 1992

Steadfast
I thought I'd put some pictures in here more recently than last year, but evidently not! So here's a few class 56 photos, starting with some older ones. 56311 passes Thingley with a Fastline route learning trip from Derby to Bristol 28/8/08 56312 leads the Colas ballast cleaner and 47739 past Great Cheverell on 6Z76 Tavistock Junction - West Ealing Plasser works 20/1/11 56302 leads 47375 past Narroways Junction, Bristol with 6Z23 St Blazey - Burton, moving 10 previously stored china clay TEAs for work prior to reuse elsewhere 8/3/12 56094 makes its debut on the Teigngrace timber as it passes Bartlett's Bridge near Parson Street on the south side of Bristol working 6Z53 Teigngrace - Chirk 20/9/12 56312 screams away from Oxford as it passes Hinksey working 6Z91 Calvert - Didcot power station empty MBAs. The opposite working takes flyash from Didcot to Calvert for disposal 8/11/12 56094 passes St George's, west of Cardiff working 6Z51 Baglan Bay - Chirk 26/1/13 56091 passes Culham with 6Z92 Didcot Power Station - Calvert 10/5/13 I'll do another post or two later with some more recent stuff - who'd have thought in 2014 class 56s would be regular traction on the GWML! jo Edited August 6, 2014 by ewsjo
60091
A purple 56...... Thanks for the more recent photos ewsjo. I don't really follow, or keep up to date with what's happening on the network today, so it's interesting to see my favourite locos making (sort of) a comeback. It's years since I've seen a 56 move, and IIRC the last one I saw was a Fastline loco which was in the company depot at the south end of Darlington Station a couple of years ago. I was surprised to see 091 back in action and was wondering if there was a site which gave a list of which members of the class were currently working again? Am I breaking forum rules by plugging the Class 56 Group? I happen to know the Editor of their newsletter GRIDIRON is a thoroughly stand-up chap (despite his user name hinting more of a Tug favouritism on a certain modelling forum) and would love to publish lots of the smashing Grid photos you folks have, in return of at least one year's membership! Steadfast
So some more recent pictures. We'll pick up where we left off, with 56091 on the Didcot flyash. 56091 departs Kennington Loop, Oxford working 6Z92 Didcot Power Station - Calvert. A week later and this train had stopped running, the flyash stocks at the power station having been run down and deposited in the Buckinghamshire landfill site 7/6/13 Next a trio of grids on one day in the Thames Valley area. I'd never have believed this possible in 2013! 56311 powers up as it leaves West Drayton working 6Z48 Thorney Mill - Calvert 10/6/13 And a close up of the grubby loco, it'd be a lovely one to model. Faded yellow, two shades of grey and absolutely filthy! And a bit of a brighter livery: 56105 passes Lower Basildon working 6Z56 Crewe Basford Hall - West Ealing Plasser works 10/6/13 Taken "dark side" so as to include the power station, I think the lighting here really works well and all in is a real favourite shot. Shows that rules should be broken every so often! 56091 passes Culham with 6Z92 Didcot Power Station - Calvert. This was the final week of the train running and its point of origin is visible in the background 10/6/13 56094 comes off the Marches line at Maindee West Jn, Newport working 6V54 Chirk - Baglan 23/11/13 That completes 2013, I'll stick 2014 (so far) up in a separate post or two jo
60091
The next instalment... Although, for many years it was the Coal Sector Livery which dominated in the North East here are a selection of locos from Construction and Metals, light engine, on shed and on a variety of workings. Both Thornaby 1995 033 later the same day - Tees Yard Newcastle 1995 Tyne Yard 1995 Sunderland South Dock 1995 Sunderland 1995 Thornaby 1997 032 at Tyne Yard in 1995 and at Cardiff Canton 1984.
