sej
Hi, I've been having some difficulty with 10 thou Evergreen plasticard fracturing on curves when I add the solvent, Butanone. Is Butanone too strong? Would Mekpack be more appropriate? Is it specific to Evergreen materials? Any experiences and suggestions would be welcome. RMweb Premium petethemole Posted August 8, 2013 RMweb Premium Share Posted August 8, 2013 If it's a simple curve (in one plane, like a van or coach roof) you could try pre-forming, either by heat or by dragging the card under a pressed down ruler or similar edge. For heat, fix the card to a suitably curved object, such as a tin can (not glass) and either pour boiling water over it or immerse in very hot water. Hopefully then the card will be less stressed to follow the curve. Pete
RMweb Gold roundhouse Posted August 8, 2013 RMweb Gold Share Posted August 8, 2013 Styrene does go more brittle with age and even quicker if its been in bright daylight. So it could be that you need a brand new sheet to get it to work as i have used 10 htough in the way you have said althoughI use Britfix solvent I have a piece of 5 thou that has gone yellow due to age and daylight on it. It is very brittle. Ian
Pugsley
Butanone is probably a bit strong, try Mek-Pak or similar instead.
