Fenway Park
The station in Blakeney closed in 1948. As has been discussed before in this Forum, the building became the Scout Hut and then another user behind usually locked gates. This is about to change as the land 1.17 acres has been put on the market with Bruton Knowles for residential development. The site will be developed and provide 17 houses but the station building will disappear sadly. Recently the gates have been left open so I will try to get some photos if possible. RMweb Gold Captain Kernow Posted August 30, 2013 RMweb Gold Share Posted August 30, 2013 Hope you are successful in getting some photos. Must be one of the last remaining artifacts of that rather odd bit of railway...
talbotsteve
Would be nice to see some photos of the station prior to its "removal".
Fenway Park
The development is complete but the good news is according to the Forester, the station building is now in the "safe" hands of the Dean Forest Railway and is stored for future use. The choice of sites has been reduced as today, the Forester, the Dean Forest have acquired Griffithstown station building to be rebuilt close to Beechenhurst Centre as part of the extension from Parkend. They need £20,000. Where the Blakeney building goes is interesting: Coleford Junction? Malcolm
shipbadger
Blakeney is scheduled for re-erection at Whitecroft. A second platform is to be erected to allow trains to pass here and thus allow more trains to be run rather than waiting for a train to reach the terminus at each end, the loco to be run round and the second train permitted to run into the platform. Trains would be able to cross at Whitecroft when this work is done. The signal box will be placed on foundations slightly nearer to the crossing gates than it is now. One aspect still in the air is that the factory which forms the back of the current platform is likely to become housing at some point so work will be required (by the developers?) on that side also. Griffithstown will be erected at the northern terminus of the line when and wherever that turns out to be, somewhere in the Speech House Road area.
