richard-g8jvm
I guess its already known, but I just just found it. Magnetic window contacts used on home security are sold in pairs of magnet and reed switch . What is useful is the price and if you open the magnet package it contain a strip of magnets each about 1 cm cube. Ideal size for attaching to the underside of wagons etc for activating reeds switches. a pity they dont have a hole drilled through them. Its these things if the description is too vague, other companies have them as well http://www.wholesalesecurity.net/html/alarm-contacts-pa-buttons.html first item on the page may be of use to someone
CourthsVeil
Richard, 1 cm cube? In my opinion this is a bit thick for fitting to the underside of rolling stock (smaller than O ). I would prefer them small neodymium magnets – not so cheap, but quite slim. And powerful! Regards Armin
richard-g8jvm
I just measured one with the vernier, 10.2mm long and the other dimensions are 7,75mm. Most rolling stock is on a frame and if attached to the body its well clear of the axle. But the cost is low Richard
14Steve14
You can but individual magnets cheaper than that, which are slimmer and come with/without self adhesive backs which will apparently lift over ikg, and entail no taking apart.
