This feed is going to be done to highlight the weathering work that I have done or has been done for me for locos and stock that are for my layout Porthcressa-on-Sea. Some of which have appeared on the excellent exhibition layout warren lane. As I get chance I will update this feed with the work done so far on locos and stock and if done by me personally a description of how I went about achieving the results and the paints/materials used to achieve it.

Most of my locos (because I've not got the confidence or skill to do them and also I have as a mate the excellent weatherer dan of dans dirty diesels) are weathered by a friend. With these I'll describe why I wanted the finish I've got and if I still can find them the prototype photos used to inspire each weathering job.

here is a picture of it on service at warren lane

it was weathered to give an overall level of general grime of a loco thats been in service for a while

I wouldnt mind one of those!! go realy well with my 97s...

i quite like the look. this is not an actual livery that nr have announced but an idea of what it could like that i found on the net but i like it. i also like the idea of having one in model form before network rail do. plus like you i have a 97 and also a 57 and so would look cool lined up next to them. as money is tight at the moment what i'm planning to do is buy a replacement shell for 66407 (which i already have) and repaint that and then swap the shell over as and when i feel in a drs mood or a nr mood. its gonna have a light weather on the nr body like my 57.

only thing to have to think about is what ficticious number to give it. from what i understand the new drs and network rail locos will probably have the emd710 power plant in rather than the caterpillar plant that was in some of the earlier locos so i would have thought they would be given a new sub class. also whether network rail would lump them in the 97 class or keep them in the 66 class

here is the picture that i asked dan to base my 57 nr off of.

i wanted as i do with a lot of my locos a light weather with the loco looking good but not pristine

here is the final result. i think he has done an excellent job and it will go well with my network rail train i created which can be seen on my main layout page.

Spent yesterday or at least the part of it that I could dedicate to the railway weathering my cross country voyager based on a picture of one I took at plymouth earlier in the year. Unfortunately realised part the way through I'd run out of flat black to do the roof so only partially done. It's amazing to see the difference. The body sides are spotless (almost) on the prototype but the roof and underframes filthy.

Anyway here are some pictures if what I've done so far.

voyager has had its first run this weekend. not on porthcressa but on Warren Lane ( http://www.rmweb.co.uk/community/index.php?/topic/23763-warren-lane/) a few teething issues mainly caused by dirty picups and wheels which i thought id cleaned alright but werent. my own fault should have prepared more carefully. strange thing ive noticed is that Bachmann dmu wheels seem to dirty up far more quickly than their loco wheels do

since this picture was taken dan has added all necessary warning flashes etc and has numbered the loco. as it is not known yet what class network rail might put there 66's in i have had to go with a bit of artistic license so after chatting to some friends about what they thought i have decided to model it as if network rail will have put them into tops class 96. so it'll be numbered 96602. dan is going to weather it for me to so as soon as i have more pictures i'll post them.

This weekend hoping to get some more brewery wagons weathered and now I've got the flat black tamiya paint I ordered I can finish off the roof of my xc 221 supervoyager. Plus I've also got to replace the motor of the model too. Last year whilst running it I was having plenty of running issues. After much attempts at sorting. Changing DCC chip didn't work. Rewiring didn't work. So it's the motor. I have ordered a new one from Bachmann. Hopefully it'll arrive soon and I can swap out the motor and hopefully have a good year of running.
