The radiator hacking has commenced, definitely no going back now!

I've taken about 2mm off the bottom of the gearbox casing, and I'm wondering whether to reduce it by another 0.5mm or so.

I've also removed the entire radiator grille area. I think the next steps will be to slightly narrow the header tank, and remove the lip around the top edge. Then I will use some plastic strip to form the vertical sides of the radiator. This will be deliberately thicker than the prototype in an attempt to achieve squarish proportions for the grille itself, which ought to be slightly narrower than the gearbox casing. Here's a front view before I start that process, with the grille shape I'm aiming for roughly sketched on:

Well, how are we doing? I think it's nearly time for a clean-up and a spray of primer to see how it looks.

This is the front view, I've achieved a square radiator grille which is much closer to the correct shape for a 210.

A coat of primer on the body parts has tied it all together nicely.

Now the underframe looks like it needs some attention!

When I next do a custom etch, I'll make the 'FOWLER' plates for the side of the radiator.

The Fowler now has its final livery, though there's still plenty of detail painting and weathering to do, and a few parts still to add when they arrive.

Also shown here but less well advanced is the matching tank wagon, which I painted and lettered at the same time. Lots more to do on this yet. The rivet transders have worked out nicely though.

As a reminder, here's the real thing:

Super job on the Fowler @Mol_PMB The B&W photo doesn’t give any hint of the colourful liveries hiding beneath the grime so great to see the colours brought to life in the models.

Andrew

Thanks Andrew!

The colour information I have comes from these two photos of the Kraft tanks at their Weaste facility on the other side of the canal. These were posted here on RMweb a few years ago before the great data crash, and I'm afraid I can't remember whose they were. Sorry - please feel free to claim the credit if they were yours!

I've had to intepret the shade of blue from the less mucky parts of these wagons. I've also made a bold assumption that the loco is the same colour as the wagons.

I've been away for the past week but will get on with finishing this project in the next couple of weeks and will post more updates then.

Cheers,

Mol
